It's been a long disputed argument about what the general lay person thinks between your conventional steel pads Vs.
ceramic, I've found a lot of bad things pertaining to
ceramic pads, especially when we're talking about a car that boats over 400BHP and is telling it's customers, think BMW, Lexus, MB, etc. when driving.
Or at least think, "not too far away".
I ran this test through many toyotas, my own hyundai at the time for about 2 years I conducted conventional pads of many variants to
ceramic.
What I've found most prominent, is those who say get off work anywhere from 5-7PM in the evening, driving home with a hint of rage, or angry at the world for no reason like a lot of us are after a long days work.
But,
ceramic pads actually cause more debris, uglier and more visible/noticeable wear & tear inside the
wheel wells. Like blackening the actual
alloy of the
rims covering th rotors, shoe, pads, calipers etc.
When in fact the only thing c-pads do is last about 30-40% longer than pure
alloy mixed pads, though do tear up your rotors faster, causing more unnecessary frequency in maintenance without any actual beneficial factors like performance enhancements.
This argument can come down to the nitty gritty till the cows come home, it's actually that close of a debate for lack of a better term, but really, unless the rest of the car can handle the beating, adding something in like slightly bigger roll stabilizers (something BMW has kept close to their chest for a long time!), slightly bigger rotors for brakes, when really they should've been targeting chassis, suspension, drive train, exterior dimensions moving from a "mid to large" size sedan, to a full flagship roll boasting STANDARD excellence that Hyundai clearly is aiming for.
Shocks, dampers, struts, axels, differentials, if a BMW 550i can go through a straight forward performance slalom with immense ease with ARS, xDrive, and their overall better "german steel" factors weighing in, what's it gonna take for the koreans and japanese to match it considering lexus has been doing what hyundai just started doing years go, and is still no where close to the likes of mb or BMW, only in the motor department does the Genesis matchup to these competitors but it's a slippery slope.
If lexus has been paying money to the germans for this many years and their still so far behind, how is hyundai going to trump that?
That's why I haven't purchased a 2012 R-spec yet, aside from testing driving the shit out of the original 4.6, I was very disappointed for the most part.
Felt exactly like a pontiac G6, not good.. and at the time, could feel the ESC kicking in on the road when I'm simply braking in anticipation of a traffic light.
With a car that shows so much promise, it's naive to think that it's some day soon, going to truly be rivaling the germans. Which is one least PR note that kinda ticks me off.
Why compete against all these other cars? Why compete against anyone else in such a demanding market? Hyundai should be louder, more determined and ambitious when telling the public who they're competing with, or who is inspiring them to make better vehicles. I think the germans for the last 10 years now, have been doing a pretty good job at completely robbing Toyota & Hyundai for trade secrets and patented automotive tech, while hyundai and toyota realize this years later after that vehicle has been in production.
That was 2002, the last year hyundai could have ever been said to make unreliable, or non-durable vehicles, my 03 Elantra put to shame a LOT of low end German Premiums. A4's, 3 Series, even MB's not worth mentioning entry level consumer target, the c class.
As proud as we should be of the Genesis and it's seemingly stand alone success next to the outperforming elantra, veloster, azera, and sonata compared to say, honda, toyota, nissan, but when compared to the german premium lineup, Hyundai has got to make a decision.
They've got a money maker, the lower cost reliable a to b cars that are loaded with luxury features standard, that's great, and I commend Hyundai for it, but they've got to focus on how to put a genesis out there that not only looks great, but performs great.
The Genesis is JUST now getting to what it should've been the year it was debuted, minus the god awful aesthetic changes they've made to the grille and rear end by enlarging the thickness and girth of that rear strip of chrome meant to remind us of the older bmw 7 series, MB S class etc.
Personally, there's only 3 things that stand out to me about the 2012 r-spec which is the main referral to what I mean when mentioning the genny.
1. More power and torque, though if anyone here has an idea as to the "road identity" of a german premium, what's missing here is 50LBS of torque OVER the BHP mark.
That's what gives the germans the edge, sure now like the 2012 M5 and 550i & up are BMWs first deviation from this recipe in over 10 years, but then again the Genesis or Equus (looks like then
lincoln MKS, ewww) are using a motor that's 50LBS under BHP in torque, the main thing that gives sports sedans distinction in feel, handling, speed, efficiency and superiority on the street. A novelty, a prestige everyone wants but nobody can afford.
So that's why it's more important now than ever for hyundai to get back on track, they made a killing from 2002-2010, and I fear they spent that money unwisely.
2. Better looking headlamps, that's the only improvement, still kinda shaky on design, but a good start.
3. Interior feature set, still missing a lot, and is by far the ugliest part of the genny, the shifter closer by it's cloned iDrive knob, and added two rear heated seats standard, what about Cooled seats?
Seriously why has this not been added already? None of that garbage perforated leather with holes in them blowing out cold air via AC, when I test drove the genny like it was my job, in less than 6 seconds of hitting the button on the drivers seat, did I feel the freon in the pads inside the seat actually cooling me off through a military grade CommEd jacket and a pair of dickies 874 work pants.
That's impressive.. If you're a smoker, just pray you never lose your cigarette cherry on the seat!
