  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have a 4.6 2012 Genesis Sedan and I have one small and I believe easily correctible issue, that I believe would help with safety and useability.

I use my iphone to stream music from MOG or Pandora through the Lexicon system. As the Lexicon system doe not show any information or allow any control of stream music through the steering wheel or screen all streaming music must be controlled through the iphone. I keep the phone in the cupholder attached by cable, as it is not practical to keep in the center console when using it in this application.

I usually prefer to have a passenger do this for safety reasons and the iphone integration cable is simply too short. A 6" longer cable would make a tremendous difference and allow for a safer experience. I have tried to get a longer cable through 3rd party sources but none are simply available.

I completely agree - the cable is too short. However, you do have limited control over advancing Pandora with forward/backward button on steering wheel (no station control, however). It could be far better with a longer cable and STREAMING!!!

I also agree. I purchased a 30" extension the connects between the Genesis cable and the iPhone. It doesn't work.

Get a 16GB thumb drive and stick it in the usb port. It'll hold all the music you'll ever want and you don't have to mess around with your phone or iPod or whatever.

They want to stream using their iPhone's 3G connection, a thumbdrive won't do that...

I understand, but since nobody broadcasts the kind of music I listen to (mostly classical guitar, renaissance lute, etc.), what works best for me is to rip it from my cd's to a drive and use that as my source in the car.

Unfortunately these won't work because the end that plugs into the jack in the console is proprietary to Hyundai and consists of a hybrid USB/Aux plug rather than the traditional USB like the iPhone/iPad uses. Using the Apple cable gives you an unfriendly message.

Can't you just add a separate one of these?

6ft 3.5mm Stereo Plug/Plug M/M Cable - Black

(I don't know... I'm just curious if anyone's tried).

It looks like a standard RCa connector. If so the Ipod will not charge. As far as I know yoy must use a cable with the proprietary, or also known as how to screw customers, Apple plug for the device to charge.

Why not get a usb extension and 3.5mm extension cables?
Since extending the other end doesn't work, and i know there are many different price points and options for these cables

Tried "extending" the OEM Hyundai cable... no good. Didn't work for me, anyway...

Here's a thought: The Hyundai cable has an Apple dock connector at one end and a combination USB/mini plug at the other. The problem is that the mini plug has three black rings, so it probably has four conductors connected to it (see pic). Most commercially-available mini plug extensions are made for three conductor cables and hence have two black rings. I wonder if this four conductor extension paired with a standard USB extension, would work.

Outstanding observation! I hadn't even noticed that!

Monoprice.com has some excellent prices on cables - I only use THEM. I am thinking of ordering a couple additional cables, maybe I'll pick one of these up just to "test". If I do, I'll keep you posted of my results.

The mini jack on Tech cars is in fact 4 conductors, not 3:
Left audio
Right audio
NTSC composite Video (!)
Ground

The video signal is pretty unusual for such connectors and why most are 3 wire as waveman noted. I don't have an iPod or iPhone so I don't have any suggestions on what extension cables will or won't work.

Proprietary jacks are evil, I think it might be possible for the tech ambitious to build their own cable though, maintaining that jack.
