  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Just brought home a 2012 3.8 Premium. After reading the manual and poking around in the fuseboxes, I cannot find a clearly labeled "DRL" fuse as described in this thread from 2009.

Does anyone know the easiest method of disabling the DRLs on a 2012 genesis?

Another option would be to use the LED frosted strip for DRLs instead of the regular bulbs (similar to Audi) - has anyone else thought about modifying the DRLs like this? Anyone succeeded?

Im pretty sure the DRL fuse is under the hood. At least it was in the 2009 (DRL's were never used, but there was a slot for the fuse).

I have been looking to replace my DRL bulbs with ones that are cooler(around 4000 kelvin) to match my HIDs more closely. My only problem other then the beast of a job to reach the bulbs is that it looks like the bulb serves as the high beam bulb also. So LED is out of the question since I don't thing the aiming will be right. I just need to get a bulb as close to the white in the low beams as possible. I personally just prefer that color over the way they look now. I was really disappointed the DRLs were not made LED to begin with. I too am considering the LED strips but not sure the expense of dismantling the headlights is worth it considering the possibility of failure of one of the LED bulbs would lead to opening them up all over again.

Thanks for the quick replies guys! I just wanted to clarify a couple of things...

I actually linked the thread on the 2009 DRLs in my original post. Unfortunately, the fuse layout seems to have changed in the 2012 model, and I cannot find the correct fuse(s) to pull...

On the LED strip, I was actually referring to the frosted LED strip on the 2012 model that already turns on with normal headlight use. I'm not sure why Hyundai didn't make these LED lights the default for DRLs, but if I can't disable DRLs altogether, I'd like to use the LED lights instead...

Hopefully that clears things up a bit, and thanks again for the feedback so far!

Figure a few more 2012s are out on the road now - any additional input?

I've looked through the drawings and schematics on hmaservice.com between the 2012 and 2011. It looks to me like they have reworked the DRL system so that it is now under computer control instead of a passive system of relays and resistors. Therefore, there is no longer a dedicated circuit and fuse for DRLs.

Sucks, because I'd love to disable them myself. I hate the things. Maybe you could see if the computer can be programmed to disable them.

I took my 2012 4.6 into the dealership last week and asked if the LED's could be used as the DRL's. I was told NO. I get so many compliments on the frosted led's that I wish they could be used all the time like the Audi, Porsche, etc. It could have something to do with the brightness or lack there of for the LED strips. They seem more like an accent piece than a DRL.

I have to give Hyundai credit for trying to make the lights more interesting that just the basic LED strips others use. I just wish I had more control over them.

In the daylight the LED Frosted strip isn't visible I'm assuming the type of light being used. I wish it showed like it does at night, all day long. It brings a big difference in the car with it on.

On the 2009-2011 models the US version lacked DRL, but they were standard on Canadian versions (that's reason for fuse). Not sure about KDM version.

A lot of members with 2009-2012 US versions complained about not having DRL, and now in 2012 some want to get rid of them. Definitely cannot please everyone.

The DRL on the 2012's are also your high beams i assume this is why they cannot be disabled the car sends different voltage to the light to make it brighter when you activate your brights. i decided to take my bulbs out and live with out the hight beams ! I also made my LED strips come on with the ignition instead of just with the headlights ! it was relatively easy to do once you remove the headlamp from the car on the bottom there is the access panel for the turn signal and right there is a brown and black wire that's the power & ground for the LED strip. i then ran my own wire to the blue wire on the headlamp wiring harness and vola they are on all the time ! also the side marker orange LED's are wired together with them i decided i didn't like having them on so i just cut the small brown wire running to it while leaving myself room to reconnect it if changed my mind

Nice work! Do you happen to have any pics of the wiring? Thanks for the detailed explanation.

not at the moment but i decided to replace the DRL bulbs with H7 LED's which will match the LED bar, which means i will have to pull the headlamps out again so i will take them then and post them!

interesting.
please update some pictures when you have a chance.

You have to wonder about somebody who would remove the high beams.

It would be nice if a harness like this...

...was produced for the Genny sedan. It would be very simple to wire the LED bar to always be on (if you trust the description for for the PnP harness).

On Honda/Acura, well at least 2010, they utilized the high beam as the DRL as well, simply pushing a lesser wattage while the DRL was activated..Fortunately, the DRL function by itself was tied to a fuse that could be removed to disable the function and leave high beams in tact. A few people received a DRL light on their dash as a result, but the vast majority who opt'd to removed the dull yellow DRL light given off in this fashion, have not.

For those of us who understand the law and liability issues, deleting the DLR function might open a can of worms. I don't know about regulations in Canada ... I think they may be even more stringent than those here in the USA. My insurance carrier, Liberty Mutual, issues a credit for having DLR's. They feel it is a valid safety issue. Deleting the function might put you at risk of voiding your insurance. Sort of like if you are talking or texting while driving. It puts you at fault in the event of an accident. At least it is contributory negligence and proximate cause of the accident. As for myself, I was one who complained to Hyundai that the earlier Canadian cars has DLRs and ours did not. I only wish the 5.0 R Spec had a bright and creative LED fixture like the Audi and BMW.

I haven't been in the 2012 headlights, but I just pulled out the bulb behind that orange reflector in my car...Is that not an option on the 2012's as opposed to cutting the wire?

My 2012 Hyundai Elantra limited doesn't have a fuse for the DRL however it dose have a wire connected to the BCM body control module located behind the heat/ac controlls

I already bought a h7 led bulbs but How can i change my DRL bulb on my hyundai genesis sedan 2012???

WHY CAN’T YOU PEOPLE JUST ANSWER THE MANS QUESTION. IT IS SO ANNOYING THAT YOU ALL HAVE TO PUT IN YOUR OWN OPINION ON LAWS AND SUCH AND CAN NOT JUST TELL HIM HOW TO DO IT! IF YOU DO NOT KNOW HOW THEN WRITE NOTHING!
SO ANNOYING!!!!!!!
