  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I've sync'ed all my contacts from my iPhone, they all show up in the car's phone book, but when I receive a call from a person in my contacts list, it shows the phone # but lists the caller as unknown. What gives?

Do your contacts in the phone have a #1 in front of the area code?

I've read about this before here, but can't find a solution. Quick question:

You didn't actually "sync" anything, right? Just downloaded the phone book?

Last stab:ATT or Verizon?

Never mind. Just got a call from a number in my phonebook and it came up as "unknown". Thanks a lot, your problem is contagious!

I'm going to try deleting the phone book (there's a setting for that!) and redownload. Perhaps something changed after the last 2 iPhone updates?

Probably get to this in a couple of days if you want to go first.

(Btw, I tried a call out using the voice command "call Susan" (in the phonebook) and it dialed and displayed as "Susan" just fine.)

Er, sorry about that, Chief... :p

It's AT&T. Oh, and the voice commands to call someone in my contact list work just fine, as well. It's just the incoming calls. If I don't recognize the #, I haven't a clue who's calling...

And I can't remember phone #s for nothing!

Dealt with this for 5 hrs today after picking up my new Genesis with tech package yesterday. Here's what i did...paired both mine and the wife's phone and they worked fine until this morning went back to the dealership(without her phone)to have the car re-detailed,found out that i have the exact same problem as you all do so we tried to pair it with a droid...it worked just fine but when i re-paired mine it didn't show up who was calling, even tried to pair it in another car...nothing so they told me to bring it to the at&t store figuring that i didn't have the latest upgrades..i did.No one knew what was going on and as of right now they still don't know! Now my wife has a Iphone3 and her's works!I am willing to bet that you all have the Iphone4 right?????

Yep, with all updates installed 4.3.3
At this point I'm guessing an ATT/Apple problem. I certainly wouldn't touch the head unit yet.

Okay, question of the day...Now what do we do???? If anyone has a fix i sure would like to hear it.

Yup, iPhone 4 w/the most current updates...

Don't have the time to look now, but I think that there have been a couple of threads on this without a solution. When I got my car back in Dec., I'm pretty sure that the caller's name would show up on the display. At some point that stopped working. The only thing that changed, AFAIK, was the iOS version, so I attributed it to that.

Did some testing and thought the results might help others out.

I tested the Equus with 3 different phones. My iPhone 4, and my two son's iPhone 3GS and here is what I found.

iPhone 4 with version 4.3.3 firmware:

Phonebook Sync = Perfectly
Voice Command Calling = Perfectly
Caller ID Outgoing Calls (In Contacts of Equus) = Perfectly
Caller ID Incoming Calls (In Contacts of Equus) = Contact Name - (empty), Contact Number - UNKNOWN

iPhone 3GS with version 4.3.1 firmware:

Phonebook Sync = Perfectly
Voice Command Calling = Perfectly
Caller ID Outgoing Calls (In Contacts of Equus) = Perfectly
Caller ID Incoming Calls (In Contacts of Equus) = Perfectly

iPhone 3GS with version 4.3.3 firmware:

Phonebook Sync = Perfectly
Voice Command Calling = Perfectly
Caller ID Outgoing Calls (In Contacts of Equus) = Perfectly
Caller ID Incoming Calls (In Contacts of Equus) = Perfectly

So it seems it's not related to any firmware version, but rather, it's the iPhone 4.

Hope this helps someone else.

Definitely not just the iPhone 4 - my 3GS with 4.3.3 also doesn't display the caller's name. If I get some time this w/e, I'll downgrade to 4.1 and see if that makes any difference. (I'd try 4.2, which was current when I bought my car in Dec. when it worked, but I don't have it.)

Did a little more research: I found posts from a few other people who are experiencing the same problem with the iPhone and other cars. One post in a Bimmer forum said that caller ID stopped working in April, which would have been just after 4.3 was released.

Interesting, I got mine to work fine with my son's iPhone 3GS and 4.3.3. I have to admit that I only tested it for a few minutes.

If there is anything else you guys need me to test let me know as I have 3 different iPhones available with different firmware versions.

Is there some way I should be contacting Hyundai about this? I figure the more they hear about it the better the possibility they might release a fix.

I just sent an email to customersupport@hyundaiequus.com describing the problem in detail (thanks to your research!). I said it was 'several' Equus owners experiencing this, so maybe it will get their attention. I also added that I realize they probably didn't have an immediate answer/solution, but would appreciate it if they started looking for one. They'll probably assign it a 'case #' and forget about it, but you never know...

But since you asked...
I said I'd do this, and will this weekend, but have you tried deleting the pairing and phone book and starting from scratch?
Thx for your work on this!

Yes I did. To make sure the tests were consistent between the three phones I deleted all bluetooth pairings and phone books before testing the next phone. Then at the end I re-paired my iPhone 4 and downloaded the contacts. In the end, the same result, (blank) in the contact name and UNKNOWN in the phone number.

Thanks for the tip on where to contact Hyundai, I will send a similar note shortly. Maybe if we nag them enough they'll get this thing fixed.
