  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I knew the news wouldn't be good when my wife called me down to the garage to show me some scrapes near the right rear wheel well and adjacent insert on my nearly new Genesis today. I have no idea where or how this happened - you'd think that it would have been obvious if it had occurred while I was parking.

Anyway, the car still hasn't had its first oil change, so I'm definitely going to get it repaired. It's a bit surprising that the metal isn't dented or depressed at all (though I'm depressed:().

I'd consider doing it myself, but I really want it to look like new again. There's a body shop near my work that seems to do a lot of work on high-end cars, so I'll see how much they ask. I just hope that whoever does it gets the paint matching right.

Does not look too bad. If they can buff out most and do very small touch ups it may be better than repainting a large area. Just a thought.

Our previous car was an Acura that had about $1400.00 of damage to the front bumper and lights by valet parking at a club in Atlanta. The car was only months old. We were so p**sed.

I agree that there's not a lot of damage, though they may have to replace the plastic (I assume that's what it's made of) insert, since I don't know if it can be painted.

Did the club pick up the tab for the repair to your Acura?

The valet parking company had their insurance company pay for it at the body shop that I have used for years. We demanded and got new
Acura parts.

I recently had some similar, but more severe, parking lot damage a little further back and lower. The panel was warped and the bracket that secures it was bent, and the whole bumper cover had to be replaced. It cost me $1700 to get it fixed - I left my insurance co out of it because I didn't want my rates to go up.

I bought my 2011, 3.8, Tech on Monday night, February 28th. The next day I drove it to work and parked in a parking garage across from my work. I parked on the top covered floor assuming that no one would park next to me. That night as I was walking up to my car in the garage to go home, I saw there was a dent in my rear driver side door. Someone had parked next to me at some point during the day and opened their door into my car. They must have really flung open their door as they not only made a dent but scraped some paint off as well. There was no one parked there when I got there. I was pissed.

Bottom line, I found a guy who did a lot of high end auto body repairs, high end cars. He was able to fix it like new. It cost $700. He did have to almost paint bumper to bumper to blend it in, that's where all the cost came from. I'm exaggerating a little but not much. I now still park in the garage but I'm very selective about the spots I park in. I only park where there is no one that can park on one side of me and then crowd to that side as much as possible. A lesson learned.

Wow, that sucks. It's amazing how thoughtless some people are about damaging someone else's property, especially if they can get away with it. As for parking spots, I have what I call "parking rules of engagement" with new cars: I'll drive to an upper level to get a spot with a concrete post on both sides. If one's not available, I look for a spot with a post on one side and lots of room on the other. My fallback is a spot with new, well-maintained cars on both sides.

I had to drive to work today so I took another close look at the damage. I still don't understand how the sheet metal wasn't dented or deformed at all, especially where it bends slightly around the wheel well. So the repair is really going to consist of buffing/sanding/painting, unless they decide to replace the insert. I wonder how well those take paint compared to metal.

My wife thinks I’m such an extremist with this “Parking in lots” thing but history has vindicated me many times. I don’t understand how if I park so far away somewhere by myself why someone is compelled to park next to me with so much room around it’s the craziest thing. I’m so aware not to touch anybody’s car when I do have to park in a slot and I watch my wife when exiting to make sure she doesn’t let go of the door. Thus far my new Genesis has no battle scares like my Infiniti G does we’ll see how long it’ll be before I hear those words “looks like somebody opened a door against the new car”. I understand your pain rrdubya.

My last car was an Infiniti G as well. Its first damage was my fault, though - miscalculated driving into my garage on a dark and stormy night (really!) and scraped the fender. I didn't get it repaired until the following year after someone rear ended me and caused about $5k worth of damage. Now that my son drives the car, it has a few more dents, including a couple of reverse dents that were made by something rolling around inside the trunk. :)

Actually Waveman my black 2007 G35X is going in next week to get all the dings fixed as there are s no real dents just dings. I really like both cars for the unique qualities they each bring to the bear. Both are great cars in their own right
