  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I have some shall we say interesting observations related to my new Genesis I’d like to run by everyone. First the Smart Cruise Control system. My other car a Infiniti G also has a very similar system. They call theirs “Intelligent Cruise Control System” and at the heart of its technology is a laser beam used to distinguish distances to car ahead. They both work well but the Genesis’s radar system is truly amazing. I can say this from using the Gs for quite a while. First off it doesn’t appear to get fooled by slight turns in the road to the car in front (my G does because of its technology) and secondly and this is truly amazing it will bring the car to complete stop without applying brakes beep :)the cruise will disengage and it’ll just sit there. That’s if the car in front stands still say like at a light. If the car happens to start before and the Genesis is doing at least 4 mph I can just tap the gas a little and it takes off to its set speed governed by distance to the car in front. In contrast my G will slow down to about 10 mph beep and keep rolling toward car in front. I do have apply brakes. I know it’s scary to think about attempting something like this but if the distance is set to the furthest the car stops way before you’re even close the car in front. Apparently the stopping point is governed by the “car to car distance setting”. Another observation is related to operation of the “Auto Wipers”. The manual says that when it’s left on auto and you start the car there’s a single wiper cycle action to self test system. Although I like the idea of auto wipers I was always discouraged to leave it on for fear of that first cycle on a dirty dry windshield. I found out my car doesn’t do the one cycle test. My wife left it on and when I got in the car I didn’t know it was on till it started to rain and to my amazement they started by them self. What I think is the manual has not been completely updated to reflect all changes in the 2011 models. By the way drove to Florida from NY averaged an honest 26 to 27 mpg at 70 and 75 mph. Not bad for a fairly large car with only 1000 miles on the odometer.

Interesting observations about the smart cruise control. It's also exceeded my expectations, although I'm coming from an older G35 with an older system. I haven't tried to see what the SCC does when the vehicle in front markedly slows or stops altogether. The manual says that the system can't recognize a stopped car and won't function below about 6 MPH, though if the vehicle in front slows quickly from cruising speed and stops, I expect that the SCC will react accordingly. I've also found that it does get fooled on tight curves as it loses contact with the car in front.

As for the wipers, I find that the auto setting is usually faster than I would set manually.

I hope you know you can control the speed of the auto mode by turning the knob on the wiper stalk, check the manual.

I can assure you that the system will stop the car if there’s a standing car as you drive up. I’ve tested this scenario repeatedly. Mind you the speed limit at the time was 25 mph and the stopping distance as I said before was determined by the setting of the “car to car setting”. I know the manual says otherwise but real world test prove different. My other car is a 2007 G35x and it won’t stop the car completely not that it’s necessary because other than testing it’s not a safe practice to cultivate. This is definitely a very sophisticated system that works well that really is the point.
