In my week old 2011 Genesis 4.6, I have tried to connect bluetooth music via nexus one , iphone and samsung vibrant but looks like the car is not sending A2DP and AVRCP signals. The same phones are connecting to bluetooth music in other toyota cars. I have called 1-800 number of Genesis and the tech didnt know what bluetooth music is? He asked me to take car to dealer. I have taken the car to couple of dealers and they say that they have not received training on this. The manual of the car at page 4-153 clearly states that car is capable of bluetooth music.
Has any one else experienced/resolved this problem

 You have probably already figured this out, but I took a 4.6 yesterday for an overnight test drive and also discovered it does not support bluetooth streaming audio, only bluetooth phone, although the sales folks didn't know this (or didn't want to say.) It is not so much the 4.6 as the tech package with DIS - I am looking online now to see if anyone anywhere knows if a firmware fix is possible or if those with the tech package are just stuck with cables and no bluetooth streaming audio - this was either an oversight or a decision by someone who doesn't know the tech and music market. Car makers in general seem to want us to use only ipods or only the ipod functions of our iphones (They must not use iphones in Korea) - we all want to play any music from our iphone, especially Pandora, on our radios - the "special cable" that makes ipod function visible on the nav/audio screen is great but when using that you cannot access any other music functions of your phone because the 'special cable' takes the auxilliary jack away and streaming bluetooth doesn't work with DIS.

I would never buy the special cable - I would just use a $1 1/8th auxillary cable (the one that goes where your earphones go.) Although you cannot then use the car screen to flip through your ipod menu, you CAN flip back and forth between IPod, Pandora, WunderRadio, Slingbox, etc on your phone and it will play through the car system. I hope they can fix this Luddite contraption with firmware. My car flooded and my rental Ford Focus has more rational electronics - I sit in the car, and the radio immediately picks up whatever I have on on my iphone and starts playing it - if nothing is on, but bluetooth is activated, it starts the ipod. Anyway, it works beautifully.

I shopped Audi and they had an "ipod" hookup in the glove box - I told the guy bluetooth streaming would be better - he said "a lot of people just buy 2 ipods" - clearly these folks are behind the curve and don't get that the listening experience is moving to or at least encompassing sophisticated internet radio and TV audio, not just a static music player. Anyway, I wish the 4.6 had the electronics of the Ford Edge - that would work for me.

If I find a solution to this problem I will post it. (Or if someone else already found one, let us know.) My solution may be to by a 3.8 with the premium nav package instead of the tech package - then, of course I have to give up air conditioned seat (a big deal in New Orleans), adaptive cruise and some other things I like - but music rules the world. I hope there's a fix. In the meantime, pull out your 1/8th inch auxillary cable and enjoy your music that way - the phone will still work on bluetooth but remember to also plug in the other end to the 12 volt charger or you have no juice in a couple of hours. The 1/8th auxilliary jack doesn't do any charging and bluetooth is powerhungry.

Hyundai customer support has been looking into it for the past 15 days. They are saying that they will get back to me with the list of Bluetooth supported phones. Although I know that firmware fix is required to make it bluetooth capable. I am documenting their response and will take action at appropriate time.

YOU CAN STREAM BLUETOOTH AUDIO...you have to go into the phone/ipod settings and go to advanced..then turn on enable streaming. The quality is not the best (CD or iPod quality) it has a lil crackle to it since its via wireless. It gets the job done for me and makes it very easy to control not only music but your phone with the voice control on the iPhone. I hope this helps :)

I have the iPhone 4, and there is no "advanced" in settings for the iPod.

Ah ha!

Except that it looks like you don't have the 2011 4.6. Your screen shots look like the touch screen version. The OP (and I) have the 2011 4.6, with the scroll wheel version. I looked on the ride home yesterday, and couldn't find an advanced setting for either the iphone or the system, and the regular settings menu doesn't include an "enable streaming" option.

Yea i have 2010 touchscreen. I didnt get the tech package because of this and that DIS can only be controlled with the knob. Sorry about that but maybe it will help those out who didnt know they could on non-tech packages

Sarge is right, but mine is 2009. 2011 next month, depending on Equus pricing/incentives.
So if I understand it, to get streaming I'd have to give up the DVD player? That won't work for me, as I've grown accustomed to surround music via DVD-A.
Back to the plug-in version of Pandora!

Does the touchscreen version not have a DVD player?

I drove a 2010 3.8 with the touch screen for almost 3000 miles - it was a loaner. I actually prefer the scroll wheel, but that might be because my first Genesis (09 4.6) had the scroll wheel and I had gotten used to it.

The non-streaming BT isn't a big deal to me. While the iPod integration seems clunky, it does work fine, and the car has FM, DVD-A, and satelite radio. With the addition of a shuffle feature on the '11 that my '09 didn't have, I'm satisfied with the intertainment options now.

Your tip should probably get added to the "What I learned from other Owners" sticky. It isn't something the average owner will stumble across on their own.

Non-tech has a CD changer, though still "surround". Tech, which we have, adds 3 speakers and a DVD player/changer.
I agree that plugging in the cable to access Pandora is no big deal, especially since it charges the phone too. I'm just surprised that it's available on one and not the other.

And thanks to the OP for the info!

The touchscreen does have the DVD player with surround sound. It hust does not have the 6-disc DVD/CD changer...but considering you cant watch DVD's in motio without the $300-400 dollar VIM (Video in Motion) its no big deal. I agree with iPods/iPhones and other MP3 music players there really is no reason to have a 6 disc DVD/CD changer. Pandora does work beautifully with the cord (in AT&T limited 3G coverage) its like having XM for free and much clearer. XM Radio is not near as clear as i thought it was gonna be or as it used to be it seems...anyone know why?

I don't understand how you are getting Pandora piped through the iPhone to the aux receiver AND charging the phone at the same time.

When I plug my iPhone in using the Hyundai supplied iPod cable, the only thing I can get is the iPod sound. I can't control playback on the iPhone itself, as the screen says "Accessory connected" so long as the cable is attached and I'm in iPod mode.

When I plug the phone into the aux port using a normal aux cable, I can get the sound from any source (iPod, Pandora, etc), but the phone is then not being charged.

It would be nice to get non-iPod specific audio out of my iPhone through the car stereo and charge the phone at the same time. It'd also be nice to display video from the iPhone to the nav screen - something it doesn't seem possible to do.

Pretty simple actually: Before plugging the cable into the phone, open the Pandora app and play a station. When you plug in the cable you'll hear your Pandora station briefly before the iPod takes over. Once that happens, double click your home button on the phone and you'll see the Pandora icon. Touch it, then hit play again. It will resume where the iPod cut it off and continue from there. The whole process takes less than 10 seconds.

1. I did not know the non-tech package played DVD. Thx for that.
2. It IS a big deal, because the Lex is capable of playing DVD-A(udio). If you've never heard a 5.1 DVD-A kicked to 7.1 by the Lex, you're really missing the highlight of the system.
3. XM is very compressed to accomodate over 200 channels. I didn't renew after my free year because it sounded so horrid.

I've changed my mind. Not being able to stream bluetooth isn't exactly a big deal, but it is bigger than a small deal.

My girlfriend and I went to Johnson Lexus, a sister dealership of Johnson Hyundai, today. She chose a new IS 250 to replace her '06 Acura TL. The IS250 is prett close to the bottom of the Lexus line, and she bought it without much in tha way of packages - heated/ventilated seats is about it. It does come with the ability to stream bluetooth, however. I was very pleasantly suprised at the quality of the audio, and with how easy it is to set up.

Streaming allows you to use all of the control features native to the iPod/phone, and the music selection in Pandora is very good. Now that I've tried it, I wish I had it.

I LIKE this tip - hope it works - I was playing my Pandora through the earphone cable and charging it from the bottom with a regular charging cable - if I can 'push' other iphone music through the iPod cable I will be very happy - thanks - will try in a few minutes. I need to catch up on the board because I get in and out of my car very often and prefer to keep my phone on my hip so I was really hoping the bluetooth streaming problem with the 4.6 was a firmware or software problem that could be updated - it is SO much easier when you're taking short trips just leaving the phone on your body and letting the car pick up your music when you get in and out.

My old car flooded and of all things I had a Ford Escort as a rental before buying the Genesis - it did this beautifully - surely it is a firmware or software problem that can be remedied???? Anyway, I need to scan the rest of the board as I haven't gotten to read for two weeks even though I get the email updates -

So have you heard anything - I'm pretty annoyed that I can't stream bluetooth AND that the car won't download my Iphone 4.01 phonebook - crazy. Thanks for any info

Not Genesis specific, but maybe of interest to all Hyundai owners:

I am now in a 2011 Sonota. I was crusing this forum yesterday afternoon (slooooow day at work) and re-visited this thread. Peaked my curiosity, so I tried to stream my new phone to the Sonota's stereo. Worked flawlessly. The phone is an EVO, and it has all of my old iPhone content, including the playlists. Switch the receiver to aux/MP3, hit the iPod emulator (called DoubleTwist), selected a song, hit play, and viola! Pretty cool, really.
