  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Has anyone thought about or actually installed a remote start?

I live in a condo without a parking garage :( but my car is usually 30-40 ft from my windows. It's really hot in the Summer and can get extremely cold in the Winter, so I was thinking about getting a remote starter for my Genny.

Has anyone already installed one of these? If so, any suggestions on reliable brands?

Also, is there a lot of risk in messing up the electrical system, or voiding part of the warranty with this type of installation?

Thanks in advance for your help!

Living in Florida I have also thought about this. I wish the Genesis had the capability of opening the windows with the key fob as many other brands, so the inside can start cooling down as I approach the vehicle. Since that is not possible, a remote start has been on my mind lately as well.

The dealer installed a remote starter on my Genesis...that was one "must have" for me.
Problem is, the car is so locked down with anti theft electronics that I needed to sacrifice 1 key fob to make it work and there was no other option according to me dealership. That was about 10 months ago and so far it works well for me...

Perhaps there has been a better solution provided on the market since then.

have you tried to get into the car without have a key fob on your pocket(or where ever you keep it) and start it?

Yes I tried it. You only get in with the key fob in your pocket/near the car.
So far, so good...
:)

I would like a remote start also. AMH--what did you have installed in your Genesis? Can you give some more details, i.e. pros/ cons? And what do you mean you had to sacrifice a key fob?

Has anyone else tried integrating a 3rd party remote start unit with the Genesis? Winter is coming up here in CT and it's going to be a long one if I don't get this figured out by then....
Thanks

Hi mjsmith3

To install the remote starter, they had to use one key fob and take it apart to get the switch inside that bypasses the anti theft system. This switch has to remain in the car somewhere in order to start the car with the remote starter.
I believe they installed this switch out of my 2nd key fob into a little box that is hidden behind the dashboard.

It is really annoying to only have 1 key fob left...but even more annoying to get in a cold car at -30 :)

There are no other functions hooked up to my 2 way remote start then to start and stop the engine. You can set a certain time on the remote such as i.e. 15 minutes for the car to run until it automatically turns off the engine again.
I can check tomorrow what brand it is on the key fob. I believe Autec or similar.
Hope this helps.

This is the remote starter I have installed:

www.autostart.ca

Model: 2461TW-FM without the optional temperature sensor.

So far so good...no complaints from my side.
The only thing that bothers me is that i had to sacrifice 1 key fob in order to have a remote starter.

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
on the 2009-2011 sedan or coupe P2S ( PUSH TO START ) cars ONLY, there is no need to have to give up a remote, there are LEARNING key modules that will bypass the chip in the key. FORTIN EVO-ALL, hope this is useful to all.

Thanks again:welcome:

Well,

Spoke to a salesman and have now an appointment this Wednesday and am having the "FORTIN EVO-ALL" installed.

Love the fact that I don't need to give up a key!

Will let you know how it goes.

BTW, the cost is $400.00 total installed tax included.

Here's the instructions if anyone's interested:
Genesis sedan - EVO ALL

Glad to have helped dude!!

Let us know how the Fortin install goes. I'm very interested, although I found the site confusing to be honest. Is the EVO-ALL the only unit that needs to be installed?

Has anyone in the tri state area ( NYC, CONN or NJ ) have a remote starter installed on their car and if so , where did you get it done at and which unit did you have installed , Thanks

Well once again thanks to you all on this forum who came thru with some helpful info, after doing some research i've come to find out that all i need for my 2009 Genesis 4.6 is a FORTIN EVO-ALL ( i wont lose one of my keyfobs ), 3-1a Diodes, 1-10 amp fuse, im going with a CRIMESTOPPER RS-1 ( i just want a one button remote to start the car ) and im thinking about adding a DEI 556T remote starter timer/controller ( have one on my wife's minivan and it works great ) you can set what time you want it to start on any day at any time. I got all the installation info from the Fortin website & you can pay $5 from WIRECOLOR.COM to get a one car diagram of all the wires & colors of wires on the car thats needed for the installation & the exact location. I will be purchasing these items later today & once i have them all i will begin the job myself & let you know how it comes out. I do electrical installations on cars & motorcycles so thats the only reason why im doing my own car

Now after further researching i think i will go without the DEI 556T Timer/Controller & i might try the VIPER SMART START VSS3000 , which will use my Droid X to remotely start my Genesis. I will see how that works

Looks like Compustar remote starters get pretty good reviews, and it seems many of them use the Fortin EVO-ALL bypass module. I think I will go that route, absent any strong recommendations from others here...

Update:

I've had the Fortin EVO-ALL installed since last Wednesday and it works beautifully.
Very professional place and actually talked with the guy who invented this wonderful gadget.
They have an engineering team and Remote Starts are their specialty.
Took them almost 2 hours to do.

No complaints here.
