  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Hello all,

My name is Jeff and I am the General Sales Manager of OC Hyundai. I have just been informed by the Hyundai District Sales Manager and the Hyundai Product Planning Administrator that there are no changes to the 2011 Genesis. More specifically, NO 8sp transmission and NO GDI engine for 2011. Also, Hyundai is elminating the non-Tech Package for the 4.6. I hope this helps those that are not sure when to buy.

Regards,

Jeff

OK, that settles it then. I will take one dozen 2010 V8 non-Tech models (I assume you will throw-in the 13th one for free).

In Canada, the lineup is:
3.8 basic
3.8 premium (nav, 14 speakers, 18" wheels, sunroof, various other items)
3.8 tech (just like your tech)
4.6 tech (no other v8 model configuration)

Just info for those that care.

Thanks, that is good information to have...

No major changes. But what about the minor changes to the exterior like the rear bumper?
Thanks for the info.

Dan

Well, I would take it with a grain of salt, the sales/marketing types are often the last to know and even if they _did_ know there were changes coming they probably wouldn't be talking about it now because they don't want to suppress sales of the current model.

There are too many conflicting reports swirling around right now, all supposedly sourced from insiders at Hyundai. I guess we'll have to wait to a little closer to 2011 model release to see how it finally shakes out.

Hyundai sent out an SOP (Start of Production) Calender with 3 definitions of each model; All New, Refresh, or Carryover. The Genesis Sedan was defined as "Carryover", while the 2011 Azera was defined as a "refresh" with some minor asthetic changes. Furthermore, the 2011 Elantra was defined as "All New"

I wanted to make certain this was the case. I contacted the District Sales manager who in turn contacted the Product Planning Administrator. He confirmed no changes other than the elimination of the non-Tech Package for the 4.6.

Jeff, thanks for sharing this! I think its a smart move by Hyundai to get rid of the non-tech packages. I personally feel the car is so much more with it.

I agree. The non-tech V8 wasn't a high demand option in the first place.
I don't think I've seen a non-tech V8 stocked in my area.
All the V8s I've checked had tech package.
It makes sense to get rid of this package combo.

Jeff,

Glad to see that OC Hyundai in Santa Ana can get this good information before the rest of the country gets it. With all the talk about 8-Speeds, and other things, I've always said that Hyundai (as well as Honda and Toyota) have better security than our government. Now, the next time you talk with them, find out about us getting our Navi GPS units updated. (It would be nice to update just the Navi-GPS with one disc, without having to update everything in the hard drive using three discs and three hours).

You are in a better position to check on what Jeff said than the rest of us. Check it out and let us know. (Yes, I remember my promise to you <grin>).

From what I have been informed, the Nav update will be available staring in August 2010. Also, all future map updates are targeted for release in the 3rd quarter of each calender year. I will let everyone know of any new information.

Thanks for the info on the map updates. Please keep us informed.

BTW, My Error: The John I mentioned in my answer to your previous post is not the same John that has a post in this thread. I read his ID wrong. The John I was thinking of is a salesperson at my local Hyundai Dealership, who reads and sometimes posts in this BB. (My promise statement has to do with me telling him that when I buy a Equus, I would buy it from him, not at "my" dealer - Except I won't be buying an Equus unless I hit the lottery first.)

Sorry. Mia Culpa.

Up here, where they discontinued the non-tech V8s in 2010, the dealers still had left-over non-tech 2009 V8s a few months ago!

Really, unless you REALLY gotta have a V8, it made no sense. Only about $1000 less than the tech package V6...

That's for 2010.

In 2009, the premium didn't have nav, and had 7 speakers (not the 14 of the US car). And the 2009 premium/tech V6s didn't have the leather dash.

Also, note that our 2010 3.8 premium and techs don't have the ultra-premium leather, only the V8s do.

yes, to me the 2010 with premium is the very desirable package. Also I believer the Canadian 3.8 tech package has "aluminum" interior trim rather than the "wood" garnish (heard or read that somewhere - never seen one) I prefer the wood myself (fake as it might be:)

It would make sense that Hyundai is saving the 8 spd AT and GDI for the refresh which should come the following year.

Also, "no changes" - doesn't mean that there aren't some minor changes (particularly w/ electronics).

I think they are saving it for the next gen. port injetion -> GDI is a quantum leap.

While that may be the case, I also wouldn't be surprised if Hyundai brought the GDI Tau for the refresh since they will a new selling point for the Genesis to compete against new models from other manufacturers.

Also, Hyundai is pretty much ready to put in the GDI 3.3 Lambda in a no. of models, so it would make sense that a GDI Tau isn't that far off from being completed.

I have a Canadian 3.8 tech and it comes with the wood. Check out the picture in my profile.
