If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

:confused:Often times my drivers seat will stop heating up after about 4 minutes. The switch fails to work the heat or the cool functions. I have to restart engine and everything works again. Sometimes it solves the problem, sometimes it doesn't. Other days it works fine, heating to the point I need to adjust it down a notch or two. It sometimes goes a week or two without a malfunction. As we are all finding out in this forum, Hyundai doesn't want the dealers to use 'trial & error' method of repair if the problem can't be repeated in the shop. Has anybody experienced this 'intermittent' heating issue. I'd love to pass on any tip to the repair guy if he can't duplicate the problem.

I had this happen to me this morning. I had it on full, also the passenger seat on full. Driver side heating went off after 5 minutes and could not turn back on, seat was not really that hot. Passenger side not affected.

I wonder if a sensor thinks it's too hot and shut it off. I know some Mercedes caught fire a few years back from the heated seats! lol.

I've had to turn mine down or off manually. I've had other cars that were on timers but from what I've experienced so far with the Genesis this is not the case. I have not experienced what you've experienced so far.

so far, the heating/cooling seats have been working fine. No issues like that. Maybe it's a safety feature to turn off after it reaches a certain temp as stated by Bigfoot.

If memory serves me correctly, I believe that there is a timer so as not to overheat the system. If this is correct, four minutes is much too short, and there is something wrong with the timer. (Could be the switch, but I doubt it).

BTW Michaeldallen, why do you need heated seats. Everyone knows that it does not get cold in California. <grin> LOL

I'm having the same issue. My highest and medium level always turn off after 2 - 5 minutes. I cannot turn them back on unless I turn the car off and back on. The lowest level never kicks off. I'm planning on having it looked at when I bring my car in for my next oil change in about 2 week. I'll let you know what they say.

I just looked at my owner's manual on line and there is no mention of a timer associated with the climate seats. There is a warning about the heat feature.

We had what passes for a cold spell in SoCal a few nights ago... so I did some tests with my 2009's seat heater:

1: I put it on 3-bars maximum. And left it on. After 9 minutes I couldn't stand it any longer - just too hot. It never shut itself off from temperature, timing out, etc. The seat was much too hot to be comfortable.

2: a few minutes later (same drive, never shut the engine off) I turned it back ON and it worked fine. The cooling function worked too; I used it to reduce the seat temps from the 9-minute ON test.

That limited testing though tells me those of you that have seat heaters turning off after a few minutes need to visit the dealer. Especially if you can't turn it back ON again.

I had this issue with the cooling, as it was spring/summer when it occurred. It would knock out both the heating/cooling buttons and nothing would even light up. It would only work again after I restarted the car.

I took it to the dealership to have them look at it. They claimed they went so far as to pull the seat out and said they couldn't find any problems. After that, for whatever reason, I don't recall it happening again. So maybe they fixed it just by jiggling wires.

It is not a timer, I have left both the heat and cool on for several minutes if not an hour or two on road trips without shutoff. I have had a few other gremlins in my electrical system as well like nternal lighting flickering.

My driver's seat in my 3 week old 4.6 is doing this. When I turn the seat heater on high or medium it shuts itself off after a few minutes. This does not happen on the low setting. I took it to the dealer yesterday and the service manager said that they "took it apart" and determined the switch itself was defective. They have ordered a new switch. I'm not convinced that this is really the problem, but since it isn't costing me anything I'll see if it works. Anyone else have this problem and have it successfully resolved?

I haven't taken mine in yet but it still does it. Here's a clue: it doesn't do it at night.....

Let us know if the switch fixes it.

I had the switch replaced this weekend with mixed results. The first time I tried the heater, the seat got nice and hot in just a few minutes but then turned off shortly thereafter. The next trip I drove for 45 minutes with it on... no problems. Again, one more long trip with it working fine. Since then, every time I have turned the seat warmer on, it turns off before the seat even gets warm. It's going back to the dealer next week.

My switch hasn't come in yet... I'll report back after installation.

Well, this is still a problem for me apparently. Since the cool weather has come back I have started using the Heated seat again and it is cutting off randomly like last winter. This appears to be an electrical issue. I have noticed that both the front and back overhead lights flicker off and on occasionally as well.

I'll be going in for an oil change soon and I'll have a talk with the dealership. I don't expect much.

My dealer said that the Hyundai tech believes the problem is with the air tubes getting crushed when sitting on the seat.. causing the heater elements to overheat. (Seems similar to the cooling seat problem others have reported). They ordered some springs that are supposed to fix the problem. I get the car back tonight. I'll report back.

OMG! This problem just developed on my '10 Genesis (15k miles).

The seat heater goes off on its own after just a few minutes and won't come back on unless the car is re-started. Then it does the same thing.

I also tested it on the cooling mode with the temp turned way down. The switch does the same thing so it's likely an electrical short.

I suspect that this problem if far more common than Hyundai knows or will admit as many people never use the seat heat.

If anyone gets this resolved by the dealer (they don't seem to know a fix from what I'm reading), please post it.

I just called my local Hyundai dealer's service dept. The advisor told me that the seat heaters automatically shut off at a certain temperature depending on the setting.

He suggested trying the heat at level three (highest). He said that the pre-set shut off on that level is much higher and if the heater does not shut off at the higher level in the short time it does at other levels, then that's the issue.

I'll try it and report back.

I don't know about no temp setting but i usually don't need heated seats in florida but the last couple days has been freezing. I turned on my seats and it never goes off until i turn it off and it actually burns my butt in the high setting and even when lowered to the lowest i drove a half hour and it never shut off, i had to turn it off. Seems you guys have a faulty seat heater.

I'm not buying the air tubes theory. Try turning the heated seat on high while standing outside the car and I'll bet it shuts itself off after a few minutes.
