  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

With the exception of the daytime map screen, the balance all have a dark or black background. This tends to show all smudges and finger marks after I attempt to clean or wipe the screen. So the question I have is if any of you gentlemen (ladies also) have found a safe way to clean the screen without leaving smudges. (Plain water?; soft detergent?; windex?;) TRhank you in advance.

I've found either of the products listed below when applied with a soft lint-free microfiber cloth to work great. You can find Plexus at most of your local motorcycles/ATV shops and the Phillips cleaner can be picked up at Target, Walmart or Best Buy in the electronics/tv section.

In addition, both work really well for cleaning the "wood" trim and clear gauge cover. :)

Many thanks to you all. If I pulled my head out of you know where, I would realize that my son had given me a spray can of ULTRALINK HD Screen Cleaner to clean my Panasonic Plasma TV. I'm sure this will do the trick. Again, your dependable and reliable answers are appreciated.

WOW! It worked like the proverbial charm. The screen and the gauges leaped out of me in all their HD glory. Thanks again.

We have to assume that you have a 2010 with the Touch Screen DVD Navi Unit as the 2009's and 2010's with the Tech Package have the Hard Drive Navi that never needs to have the screen touched.

My previous car, a 2007 Lincoln had the DVD Touch Screen Navi Unit, and I would just wipe it with a damp cloth. One thing I did not like about the Touch Screen was that in the area where I would touch most often, the coating on the screen got worn off. Looked bad.

Bob, I do have the Tech pkg (my signature advises of that), but sometimes I tend to fleck off a spot of dust, and you know how one fleck can lead to another and before too long I"ve got a lovely bunch of smudges. However, it's all AOK now.

Any cleaners made for maintaining LCD screens would do the trick.

Dan

A new product I'm a huge fan of that works really well on the LCD screen is Maguires Interior Detail Spray. It can be used basically on anything and also the LCD screen.

I spray 2 or 3 sprays on a clean microfiber cloth and, presto! Easy to find this product as well.

I also have some expensive crap I bought from Best Buy that, for some reason, doesn't work that great....

The interior is not that big a deal, anything for LCD screens, or anything made specifically for clear plastic will work. For your headlight assemblies, Plexus is the way to go; it will not only clean and polish, but it will seal the pores of the plastic, making water and other debris unable to adhere to the surface, similar to what Rain X does on glass(don't use Rain X on plastic), Plexus was developed for use in the aviation industry - specifically, for cleaning and protecting aircraft windshields.
