hi, just got my 09 4.6 genesis... noticed that when i try to adjust the tone (bass, mid and treb) it sounds good but when i click the volume arrow up or down, the sound becomes flat again.. it doesnt matter if i turn the surround on or off... anyone have same issues? need help please or any advise? ill appreciate it. thanks. i love my car tho..
 
We have talked about this before somewhere in the forum. I'll assume you do not have the tech package and have the mid level Lexicon like me. You are not imagining the loss of your settings. My car does it too. I just readjust them when I get into the car, adjust the volume only with the steering wheel and it is usually ok until I shut the car off. I never even attemped a fix as the dealer will probably think I am nuts. Maybe another forum member has??

yes, i did not go with the tech package... i did not even know that theres a "mid" lexicon stereo.. because even with the presetted eq, it gets lost if i turn the volume up or down.. love the sound system tho if it just stayed that way as set.. i hope theres a fix for this problem.. i hope someone has an idea. thanks for the input!
 
The 09 Genesis basically has 3 audio systems: the base model V6, the 14 speaker Lexicon (V6 Premium, Premium Plus and base V8) and the 17 speaker Lexicon on the V6/V8 Tech.

Having said that, that is why I called the system "mid level". As for the tone controls, I don't believe that any forum member has came up with a fix yet. The only thing you could do is try and explain it to the dealer. I figured they just wouldn't get it and since its only a minor annoyance I just live with it. I simply reset when I get into the car and it stays put until I restart the car or use the volume knob on the radio (instead of the steering wheel controls).

I've experienced the same thing--as have many others. As I mentioned in the thread noted elsewhere, I was advised by my dealer that this is a problem that all have, but not considered a 'problem', but supposed to be that way.

Recently, I forwarded an email request as a part of a response about quality of dealer service from a recent oil change visit. I commented to them regarding this problem that we're all having. I received from Hyundai the following response on 12/21/09:

"Dear Daniel:

Thank you for taking the time to participate in our survey. Hyundai appreciates your feedback.

We apologize for the bass frequency response level dropping concern that has prompted your response. We have documented your comments in our system and forwarded your case to the appropriate personnel within Hyundai to effectively research and respond to your comments. Your case number is 3795570.

Again, thank you for participating in our survey and for your patience. We will contact you when we have an update to your case."

Today is Jan. 13, and I've not heard a response as yet, but as soon as I do, you can bet you'll be among the first to know! It would be interesting to know who the "appropriate personnel within Hyundai" actually are!

Enjoy your car--I've had mine for about 18 months now (approx. 31K miles) and I still love driving it!

I have the midlevel Lexicon on the 2009 base V8. I have been experiencing poor AM reception, a whining on a lot of the AM stations. The dealer replaced the amp which didn't do anything. They then hooked it up to another unit and that worked. I am having the entire unit changed in the car next week. The dealer said this was a special order part and they did not have it in stock. They also indicated the entire component cost $4000. Thankfully this was under warranty.

Interesting symptoms....poor AM reception...maybe an antenna lead wasn't connected. And the whining sound you describe...typical (back in the 'day') of either a ground problem, or a lack of resistor plugs that (the resistor) absorbed the static. I can also remember an alternator on one car that would create EMI and interfere with the AM band due to similar frequencies. Makes me wonder if something wasn't connected correctly in your original unit and one possibly is a sub-assembly of another, etc.

Regardless, a warranty replacement should take care of it!

Yeah, this is the third try. The first try was the AM antenna. Nope. Then they swapped the amp, didn't work either, so they're replacing the whole radio. It's fine by me.

I have a touch of alternator whine when I listen to XM. I really only notice it when I am listening to talk radio and accelerate from a light.

What ever this is, it's not mild. The reception on AM radios is horrible and the whining is a ear splitting squeal from the radio, which is why I bothered to get it repaired. What you describe, I could deal with, or at least get fixed when I get the car serviced.
 
Sounds like a poor ground of the shield of the antenna probably at the interface to the radio.

We have researched your inquiry and found that with the standard radio (Non-DIS) bass setting does reset back to the default position with volume change or key cycle. We sincerely apologize, but there is nothing that can be done to make the radio operate differently.

They must have fixed it for the 2010. I'm not having this problem.
 
ok, no fix with this huh... well, i guess we have to just live with it then.. i noticed something else... if you turn the volume up or down when you turn the radio on, it will reset but instead of setting the tone again, just go to xm or cd or ipod then it will stay on the tone settings.. even if you turn the volume up or down regardless if you turn the knob or press the one on the steering wheel. i just figured that out. hope this helps people with the base v8. :)
 
I can't seem to access the main disc menu while I have a concert DVD in. I need to remove it to access the main menu. Anyone else having this issue??

Cracked open my now 25th DVD-A purchase, Machine Head by Deep Purple, one of my favorite albums from high school. Wow !! It sure never sounded like that before. Almost makes my 50 mile drive bearable.

Unfortunately, "we screwed up, so you have to live with it" is the default response from Hyundai on design and technical issues. I got the exact same response when I pointed out to them that they had removed from the 17-speaker Lexicon system the ability to randomize songs on an iPod.

A real disappointment and one of the primary reasons I'll hold off on buying an Equus. Getting things 98% right is good, but refusing to correct the 2% you goofed up is not so good...
 
Sad to see that when you set an adjustment it should stay...but does not. Guess the guy that designed the cruise control worked on the radio settings too! Reset to default every time...what a concept...
