  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Gee. What a thrill. Finished a round of golf, press my FOB to open my door.
Dead. Nothing. Everything Dead. No power, no nada.
Call Hyundai Roadside. Freaking nightmare. 2 Hours later somebody comes and tows my car (after multiple calls to see what is going on).
So I get home. No Car. No call. No status. I'm screwed till I hear from them.

Piss poor roadside. No info. No rental car. No nada.

Great way to spend 40K on a car that is now a little over 2 months old.

Update/Tuesday Evening
So apparently they figured out what was going on. Two of the computer nodes were failing to shut down completely when the vehicle had been turned off. This had been causing a slow power drain over an unknown period of time. Also I was told a new software update was available from the factory that has been uploaded in my car. They are keeping it tonight to verify there is no power drain overnight and if all goes well, I will get her back in the morning. Frustrating yes, but I am hoping for the best.
Thanks for your comments

I assume you got into the car?

Did you try these things mentioned in the Owner's Manual?

• If the battery is weak or the smart key does not work correctly, you can start the engine by inserting the smart key into the smart key holder. To eject the smart key from the smart key holder, press the smart key inward passed the detent and then pull the key outward.

• When the stop lamp fuse is disconnected, you can't start the engine normally. Replace the fuse with a new one. If you are not able to replace the
fuse, you can start the engine by pressing the engine start/stop button for 10 seconds with the engine start/stop button in the ACC.

Sorry to hear about that! This is why I will never buy a the first model-year of any car. It seems like Hyundai has many electrical bugs to be killed.

Whoa...
Where did they tow the car to? A Hyundai dealership I presume. Does anyone know if Hyundai has a dedicated fleet to deal with roadside emergencies or do they outsource/contract that work to a network of towing companies?

They outsource.

This is sad to hear. However, this appears to be an isolated case based on what we know. Before we condem our first year models Poopsicle, lets first see what caused the issue.

Hey Mark,
They towed my vehicle to the dealership. Sounds like they had a helluva time get it even started themselves this morning. Car has been there for 6 hours and they have no idea what is going on or when they will know. I'm beginning to get a bad feeling about this. Sounds much more than just a minor electrical or power issue. Me thinks something major happened. :(

Sorry to hear this. It's something that I dread with push button start systems (and is something that a salesperson trying to sell you a car with a traditional ignition system will convince you happens often).

Although I'd like to think that the defect rate seems to be pretty low for the Genesis, the complexity and intermittent nature of some of the problems reported here seem to beg a better effort by Hyundai--at least initially--to confine service for the Genesis to a subset of dealers. They could then work with Hyundai support to diagnose and resolve problems without customers having to deal with every service department under the sun who tries to learn by doing. Just my 2 cents.

Why, because a half dozen people have had issues? Don't make a mountain out of a molehill, especially when you have no first-hand experience w/ this owner and/or his Genesis.

Since we're on the topic of anecdotal personal stories, I was the first Genesis owner on here, and one of the first in the county. I took delivery of my Genesis 3.8 Prem Plus on 6/27/2008. Problems? A minor paint defect fixed under warranty. Not a single other issue to speak of aside from an occasional rattle or two, which every car I've every owned has had.

It seems I'm not alone either. From JD Powers 2009 Initial Quality Study:

The study finds that initial quality for newly launched and redesigned models in 2009 has improved compared with previous years. Historically, all-new models have typically launched with below-average levels of initial quality. However, several all-new models in 2009, including the Hyundai Genesis, Kia Borrego, Toyota Venza and Volkswagen CC, perform considerably better than their respective segment averages.

To the OP, I hope you don't think I'm trying to invalidate your story. I am truly sorry to hear you're having issues.....hopefully this is an isolated incident. Be sure to keep us posted.

Just to add something to this concerning the push button start. I had my Infiniti M35 for over 3 years and never had any issues with the push button start. The battery even died in the remote. I inserted it in the slot provided, and it started right up. This sounds like something else. From reading some of the threads, folks are having some issues with things not tightened all the way. Maybe a loose cable somewhere? Just a hunch. Good luck!

well there is one question i would like to know , did they offer or even give you a rental or loaner car while they try to figure out the problem with your genesis.....?

when i had my problem with my blue tooth on my 4.6 w/tech (my thread is on here) they at least gave me a rental for free for 3 days from Enterprise rental (yes it took em that long to figure out that is wasn't my cell phone but in fact the head unit wasnt functioning right with the blue tooth)

Rental/loaners are totally at the discretion of the dealer since it's not clearly spelled out as part of your warranty coverage.

My dealership will give you a rental if they need the car overnight. Others might not. Heck, our Audi dealership never gives out loaners which is part of the reason why I never bought from them. If you're going to pay luxury car prices I expect a higher level of service.

My dealer said if I wanted, I could take a Genesis loaner car even just if I was in for an oil change, or if I ever take in for any other type of service:D:D

Same thing pretty much. My local dealer that I purchased it from has a base V6 as the "Genesis loaner" for fellow Genesis owners. Not a V8 Tech - but at least it's not anything else
