  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Its illegal to do so in the USA, but when traveling in mexico, my kids like to watch DVDs. Anyone know how to by pass the parking mode so that it plays while drving?

Thanks for your ideas.....Salute!:grouphug:

It's based on the MOST bus so you can't just yank out the speed sensor. Some one claims to have gotten it to work. Another says it's some software hack but who knows how to do it.

I've never understood why they even offer DVD for a system like the one in the Genesis....who the heck is going to site for 2+ hours in their car to watch a movie on a tiny screen...not to mention wear down your battery ....so what's the point of even having DVD video capability?

There is a much cheaper and better solution than tweaking the in-car dvd player to show video while in motion. Just buy a portable DVD players for under $100 and you can play video anywhere and anytime.

For the superior sound/music? I don't need to see the video of a concert to enjoy the 5.1 or 7.1 experience of 17 speaker surround sound. For example, yesterday I bought the 40th anniversary DVD(s) of Woodstock, remastered in 5.1 for the first time. It's unlikely I'll ever see them, but can't wait to hear them while driving down the highway.

The NavTV seems cool, if pricey. A cheaper solution is to use portables in the back. You could also use them in Mexico or the US. I like this solution because with headphones in the back, a childrens program can be on, and I can still listen to what I want; everybody's happy.

Mark,

What is that thing sticking out of the left/center vent in the first photo? Is it a thermometer? Could it be that there is someone, in addition to me, that is fussy about what the temperature is that comes out of the vents?

I keep a thermometer in the front left/center dash vent, just for that reason.

Just what we need is the ability for the driver to view a DVD while driving. Perhaps the driver can watch the DVD, text with both hands, and steer with his left knee while he operates the gas and brake petal with his right foot.

I know one thing. I don't want to be anywhere near you if you start to operate the DVD from where you can see it, even though all you want to do is just listen.

JMHO.

Air freshener maybe?

Ctrcbob,

I realize your concern. The video in motion
feature is typically utilized for passenger enjoyment
and kids in the back seat. Video in motion
is not for everyone. Some people with very long stop
and go trips to work use it too.

Until dual-view monitors or perhaps a rear-seat entertainment system are standard, there will be a demand for systems like these.

Also, at least for the Tech package, the video-in-motion prohibition includes music DVDs that were authored with menus, lyrics, cover art, and other static content.

You definitely have a good point about drivers who would be further distracted, but that argument can also apply to any task, such as GPS or messing with a radio station.

Moose66 beat me to it, yes it's just an air freshner

I now have VIM (video in motion) now on my Genesis and it works great!!
Took me a 2 hours and 15 minutes to installed. If you are handy proabably little over an hour to install.

Will be a wonderful companion for passengers during long trips.

Two thumbs up to NAVTV for this excellent product.

Disclaimer: I put a pad with a clip on the driver side of the screen so that I couldn't be distracted while driving (and it's very distracting to me).

My wife loved it while we were on a 10-day trip, and she used it to catch up on all the TV show seasons she wanted to. The command interface still works with it and the Navigation directions still work with it. Installation was pretty straightforward, except I had to scrape my knuckles quite a bit while figuring out where to push the VIM module and the harness connectors while putting the Stereo back in its place.

It's definitely much cheaper to buy a standalone dvd player and we did try it for a while before, but listening to the DVDs in the awesome sound system beats any standalone dvd player by far. It also helped that we didn't have to worry about charging and unplugging our existing cellphone chargers etc.
