  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

So my first out of warranty issue popped up on my 2009 in the form of a failing back-up camera. The video image was intermittently scrambling. It only happened when backing up so I was certain the screen was not the issue.

I had heard that dealers were charging in the neighborhood of $900 to replace the camera and even the part alone was $280. I decided checking for loose wires first would be a smart idea.

I removed the liner on the trunk lid and found the wire running out from the camera. I didn't think to get pictures, but it's coming out of a grommet to the right of the license plate. If you follow the wire back you'll find a junction with a connector that continues on to the front of the car. I unplugged the connection and confirmed this was the camera feed. Upon re-connecting I used a zip-tie to secure the two ends.

Low and behold, my camera has been working solidly since. Not sure how this will work long term, but saved me a lot of money and frustration for now.

I know you didn't, but is it possible to take pics? Is it just a loose connection in the junction?

Getting that liner off is pretty involved, but once it's off the wire is easy to locate. The connection wasn't obviously loose, but unplugging it and plugging it back in with the zip-tie securing it seemed to do the trick. It been almost a week and it's still working fine.
