Question What's the V6's top speed?

Remove this ad
Now I must preface, by saying I am not looking for any demonstrated speed here

My question comes from some of the reviews I have seen in the press. They talk about being a tire rating limited 130mph for the V6. Which is true the Dunlop Sport 5000Ms are H rated (130mph)

http://www.wheelstudio.com/tire_speed_ratings.php

I have seen the V8 quoted in reviews as having a top speed of 156mph. However I have noted the V8 is fitted with the same 5000Ms as the V6 (from some of the photo albums on this forum).

Why would the press quote a tire limited speed for one and not the other?

If the tire is not the limiting factor what is the V6's top speed?

I would like to wager a guess based on horsepower, weight of the car, and drag co-efficient. I would say around 142 mph.
my guess.
would love to hear actual.

Im pretty sure the v6 will hit near to 160 as the V8...just not as quick

I dont think either one of them are actually limited except by drag (wind). If I had a good stretch of road and cruising with the jet stream...Im pretty sure the needle would go past 160 in my v8...

My 5000Ms have a V, not an H. I believe that puts the top speed for the tire at 149.

Thanks to everyone so far for the feedback and great comments. Sounds like the consensus estimates are between 142 and 161mph.

BacktoHyundaibychoice, You are right ! I just checked my tires and the Dunlop SP Sport 5000M (235/50 R18) are indeed V rated.

I guess the press must be refering to the tires on the 17inch rims when talking about an H rating (anyone know if they are different?)

Great YouTube clip too. Did you notice it was taken in a tunnel? Definitely optimal for minimizing cross wind effects. It still did not say if it was V6 or V8 though.

the clip was filmed in s.korea and V8 is not available over there. v8 will only come with VI(the replacement of eqqus).

161 mph sounds a bit optimistic. I wonder if the emission controls, exhaust, ecu, etc. are the same as on the north american version as the Korean domestic version.
We need someone near sea level to double check tire pressure and find a long flat road!

Superidler,
Thanks for the clarification on the tunnel in South Korea. I was worried that was my wife being late on her way to work again in the 4.6.:
