Default Brake Lights not Working

Just found out my 2009 4.6 Tech package brake lights weren't working. All of them don't light up. I thought the car would let me know if something like this happened. My lights are all working though, just the brake lights don't light up. This is extremely dangerous. If I have to take it to the dealership do I just drive with hazards on? Also this car was certified pre owned, and I only had it for a year and a half, would I be covered? Car has 63k miles, I added about 10k.

There are several recent threads on this. Problem is a diode under the dash on drivers side, which is fairly easy to replace.

Not sure if covered under your CPO warranty, but it would not be covered under a normal bumper-to-bumper 60K mile warranty. But if you can replace it yourself, less than $10. Hopefully, not too expensive if not under warranty, but there may be a TSB on this that would not cost you anything. Contact the service writer via phone, since they know all about this problem (not just on Genesis).

Going by memory, I think it is the Z002 diode. happened to my car also. As an emergency drop-off, my dealer fixed it in about an hour.

Early production had this problem. Easy fix under warranty.

OP has 63k miles, so not covered by normal warranty. But not sure if CPO warranty extends that (I thought it only extended the drive-train warranty to same as original owners).

Anyway, since the brakes will probably fail soon, no need to even worry about brake lights when that happens.
