  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I recently purchased a used, 2012 Genesis 3.8, white, 6K miles w/premium & technology package from Carmax. Paid $34K, excellent condition. I read in the manual that when locking the door the parking lights will flash along with one chirp/beep as an acknowledgement and twice when unlocking. The acknowledgement only happens when I unlock the doors. Is this a misprint? Anyone else have this experience? Sorry if this was discussed already, I was unable to find it during my search.

check the settings in the DIS system. press the phone/info button beside the knob onn the center console once or twice to bring up car settings.

Thanks for the info. I checked my settings and 'Door Lock Sound' is selected. What's strange is that it works when I unlock the door but no sound or flashing light when I lock the door. For now, I just hit the key fob lock button twice and watch the mirrors fold to verify that the doors lock. I will have the dealership check it out on my next visit. Thanks everyone for your help.

The chirp & blink if I remember correctly are supposed to be confirmation that not only are the doors locked but that the alarm is ARMed. If you don't get that confirmation (but you do get the proper double-chirps on unlocks so the sound setting is confirmed to be ON), I'd check the hood & trunk sensor switches. It may be the alarm thinks something is still "open" so it's not ARMing. A missing hood bumper was very common early on - led to a lot of folks with dead batteries after parking the car just a couple days too. Pop the hood and look along the driver side edge of the hood. Near the front corner you'll see a round rubber puck about an inch in diameter. Half way between that one and the windshield there should be a smaller one - half to three-quarters of an inch or so. That was missing on many cars... or screwed in too far so it wasn't pushing on the switch (visible through one of the black plastic covers inside the fender) properly. With a missing or mis-adjusted rubber bit, the car's electronics thinks the hood is open so the vehicle stays in "standby" mode rather than fully shutting down ==> kills the battery.

It can/should chirp and flash lights once to acknowledge doors locked. If you don't have DIS, then you will need to have your dealer (a Hyundai dealer, Carmax won't have the special Hyundai service computer) change it.

Thank you everybody for all the help and advice. I am going to check the hood when I get home today. I do not trust my dealership after they told me the reason the stereo surround option keeps getting uncheck is to conserve battery when I turn off the car. By not remembering all the settings, battery life is preserved per the service technician. I'm a software engineer and I know for a fact that if the software cannot retain the user settings it has to be a bug with the software.

Mike C. Thanks for your help! I was missing the hood rubber pad you described. I will get a replacement from the dealership tomorrow. Would've taken them 2-3 trips to figure it out. I would've had a hard figuring out what was draining my battery when the car is not driven for a couple of days. Again, thanks for the help. Greatly appreciated!

I don't get a locking sound/signal if the trunk or hood is open. I'm okay with that.

However, sometimes, when the weather is really hot, I'll open the hood once its in the garage to help it cool down faster. Underhood heat is really hard on all that plastic over time so I figured once it stops its just cooking. So far I've not had an issue with it running the battery down (mine's a 2011 Coupe) but it just sits there like that over night or maybe a day or two (I drive the truck if it rains).

I never use the key fob thing to lock or unlock the car. Too many reports of folks sitting in the parking lots and monitoring key fob frequencies and then cleaning out your car the next time you park it and walk away (maybe that time). Mine kind of stands out (any coupe does:D) but the yellow ones are rare around here.
