Sorry no videos...was pretty busy shifting!

On the way to work today, I "accidentally" push the gas kinda hard from a stop...just so happens a M3 was beside me. We race/toyed around about 5 times from a dead stop to about 100. When Gen was in "D" the M3 walked me like a dog 2 times. When I shifted myself it was close enough for me to see the reaction of the driver "shock", even though he still had me by a half of car!

I believe with these cars tuned, headers, tru exhaust, CAI. They will easily see low 12's, maybe high 11's!

The bad thing is nobody will touch em!
 
Very nice... I'm not one to "race" folks, but sometimes, in this car... you just can't help yourself!
 
100 mph on the street? I thought these cars attracted a mature crowd, not one that is willing to endanger the lives of innocent people by steet racing.

If you impale yourself on a bridge abutment, I could care less. But when you are so callous and reckless with the regards for the safety of others, I take issue.
 
U can have ur thoughts and opinions, to each their own! Speed limit was 70 so yes I ran to 100! No matter what crowd u r u reck at 70 or 100 ur screwed! Anything else bud?

Nope, that was it. I hope that you never find yourself in a situation where your actions result in injury (or worse), and that maybe you will re-think what is safe and acceptable behavior when others are involved and can be impacted by your choices.

I'm in the situation all the time... Four tours to Iraq, 2 to Afghanistan with a third one coming up.

What have u done lately for ur country? Cuz Internet bashing doesn't count ;-)

I am not "internet bashing"; merely expressing my distain for street racers and their irresponsible behavior.

I'm not sure what "service for your Country" has to do with street racing, or where you can make a correlation between the two. If one can, then I would say my son-in-law, who has a purple heart for his service in Afghanistan, should be able to do any damn thing he wants irregardless of the law?

FYI, I was also in the Military, albeit years ago. Again, I am confused as to what this has to do with street racing. Do you think you are somehow entitled to do so based on service and oversea's tours? Is that your line of thinking?

Big Tugg, first off, from one combat vet to another, my sincere thank you for your service, and it pains me to see you are going on a 3rd tour, which in my opinion is unnecessary. We dont need to be there.

Now, I have to agree with the sentiment of others in this thread about street racing being an irresponsible act. It is your choice and free will to do as you please as long as you are mature enough to understand that you are accountable for your actions.

Im taking issue with one thing. I personally dont throw in peoples faces my service to our country every moment someone doesnt agree with how I carry out my life. I dont use my service as an entitlement, a license to act like a careless individual, to feel that Im better than the other person, I dont do that. But I take offense when that person is arrogant enough to pull the "Ive done A B C, what have you done..." or " did YOU serve" card. Its unacceptable and its unbecoming of a professional soldier. And for that, Im dissapointed.

Nobody is telling you not to race, or for that matter, how to live your life. Just understand, that by posting about how you raced an M3 in a forum that is not in the Fast n Furious, tuner crowd, that you will get an "atta boy" or get a high five. You are better off keeping that to yourself.

With that said, please be safe and watch your six in Afghanistan.

Congrats on hanging with the M3....those are some seriously fast cars. As for the whole street racing thing....Driving a Genny or M3 up to a hundred is far safer than people texting, talking, or driving old cars on the road. I'd argue that a Genny and definately an M3 could stop from 100mph in a shorter distance than say a full size 80s or 90s pickup can from 70mph...though I can't find anything to support it.

Street racing, especially the occasional stop light grand prix is not really a big deal. A pretty good article on the stats can be found here...

I have no problem racing from zero to 100 in a 70mph zone as long as the location warrants it. These cars hit 100 so quick, as long as there is not a cross street, its pretty damn safe. Most street racing deaths are from the typical fast and furious crowd zigging in and out of traffic and just plain stupid driving.
 
There is street racing and then there is Street Racing. From what I have read of the OP experiences he stop light raced a M3 5 times reaching top speeds of 100. Can we all agree on that? Yes Ok lets think for a minute, in order to be able to do that type of MPT and decel there is not a lot of traffic around in the first place. Plus the speed is not sustained for very long at all say less than 1 sec maybe 2 sec then you are on the binders HARD cause the next light is up ahead. I think that we are all smart enough to know that this not he best thing to do but far far from the worst.

Now if the story went more like we raced for over a mile or more flat out on the freeway or interstate weaving in and out of traffic....yeah I could see reason for admonishment, but stop light racing? Come on folks lets give our fellow Genesis drivers some credit eh? :grouphug:

Ditto.44 years ago when I made it through the Tet Offensive of 1968, I thought I knew everything. But life's mistakes can beat up on people in other ways when you least expect it.

Stay cool, and when you're tempted to street race, think about the loss of a child's or spouses life from someone else's blowout at 100 mph, or maybe $3,000-6,000 in fines, attorney's fees and insurance surcharges.

The people in the country you have been protecting shouldn't have to worry about being protected from you.

At dealer today, the 1st thing the service manager asked when he heard and saw my electric exhaust cut outs was, "How fast will it do in the quarter?"

Hope to do this at the track very soon. As for street starts/stops....it's an American Tradition. Glad you put a smile on the M3's bumper. Stay safe and smart while protecting the rest of us.

I am curious - could you tell what year (approximately) the M3 was?

The current model is a 4.0L V8 with 414 HP and 295 lb-ft of torque. But it only weights 3700 lbs.

Previous models were running I6's. I think the switch happened around 2007/2008.

if you get in a crash at 70 mph you will most likely die. if you get in a crash at 100 you will also most likely die. end of story.

as long as there are no other people on the road to be harmed, I say its fine. let him make his own calls :D

Maybe Im getting "old" or live in an alternate universe. By this logic, its ok to put other innocent lives at mortal risk because of a street race? (Even if there is nobody on the street, which is highly impossible unless its 3am and doesnt cut the fact that a public street is not a controlled environment)

Dont get me wrong, Im a sucker for high HP cars, I crave speed and I love to race... at the track. I've done some pretty stupid shit when I was younger driving like an ******* on the streets. Ive had that sense that Im in control of my car. However, I cant control what the other driver is thinking or going to do. I've grown from that phase and am more considerate of others when Im driving. My thought process has changed severely since my Son was born.

The bottom line here is people are trying to justify an unjustifiable act. You want to race on the street, thats on you. If you die, thats on you, but you dont have the right to take another life. Specially while engaging in an idiotic act like street racing.

Unfortunately, this thread, this discussion is not going to change the age old fact that people will continue to satisfy their need for speed by doing it on the streets. Come to realize it, its a doggone mute point. Cant fix stupid.

I guess we should have all bought Priuses! (or is it prii?) When we pay Bigg Tugg's car payment, we can tell him how to drive it.
Hopefully we all have enough common sense here to realize what we are risking by driving above the speed limit, and make our own decisions accordingly.
