Default iPhone 5 cable

I have an iPhone 4 and use the OEM iPod cable that was provided at purchase. I haven't seen too many third party cables available, but what are the odds that an iPhone 5 cable will become available soon?

Someone will sell one sooner or later given the popularity of iPhones and iPods. Apple also sells an adapter for about $30.

Apple sells an adapter so you can use your existing cable. It is an inch long though so makes the plug a little ungainly.

I would think that the included with iPhone5 (and seperately available for $19) USB to "Lightining" cable would work as a replacment to the OEM cable. I will find out next week.....

Don't think it will. If you look at Hyundai's cable, they incorporate both the USB and audio jack on the car side of the cable. Let us know if it works though.

Doesn't look good: http://reviews.cnet.com/8301-13746_7...s-in-the-dust/

I'm completely convinced that the current Hyundai iPod cable will be incompatible with the new docking connector since it relies upon analog audio. If you can live without the poor factory iPod control, then potentially a Bluetooth A2DP adapter (<$50) should allow you to stream audio to the Aux input but you'll have to control via the iPhone or iPod.

If Hyundai creates another adaptor with the new end, would that work?

Yes possibly. The better questions are if and when

The adapter I mentioned previously will connect the current cable to the iPhone 5's (or new iPod's) Lightning port, but it remains to be seen if the menus will appear on the Genesis' screen. It's also unclear whether even a new iPhone/iPod cable from Hyundai will work. See this article in Macworld for more information.

When I'm wrong, I'm wrong, the new cable is purely digital.

There may be some hope though, WhatHiFi in the UK claims that Apple has confirmed the $30 new-to-old adaptor has a built in DAC, if so we can hope that the existing Hyundai cable may work........http://www.whathifi.com/news/iphone-...th-the-adapter

The apple web site states that the two adapters they are now offering do not support "iPhone out" or video. I have never used that terminology, but I take it to mean that there was previously an analog audio and video signal contained within the 30 pin connector, that various aftermarket accessories used. This will be absent in the iPhone 5 as the Lightning is all digital; any adapter cable would need to have a digital to analog converter (which according to some sources the apple adapters have, or don't have depending upon the source). The Macworld article is very good at explaining what all that terminology means to the user.
I think the A2DP solution is a good bet I will have to look into it. Disappointing that Hyundai did not include that feature in the built in bluetooth.

Apple strikes again. Gotta make those billions somehow. Proprietary cables FTW.

Sincerely,
- Guy who finally broke down and bought an Apple product for the first time last month (new iPad, which I like, by the way. Very much)

That's incorrect. Macworld sought and received direct confirmation from Apple that the adapter does supply analog audio, and the company told The Verge that future adapters will support VGA and HDMI video out, just like the current 30-pin accessories.

What does this mean for you? If you don't have a car that supports iPod Out, and you don't plan to buy one, go ahead and get that iPhone 5 or new iPod touch you're craving. The Lightning to 30-pin adapter may be clumsy and certainly isn't cheap, but it definitely will let you connect to your music.

Fwiw, I have a case # at Equus Support asking the question. Will post to this thread when/if they get back to me with answers.
