Genesis owners: what else did you consider?

I had my mind set on buying the Audi A4 but the only way to get the intelligent keyless entry (which comes standard with Genesis) was to get the prestige package. I couldn't justify spending over $46k for a car with no V6 and no interior space. My friends had trouble sitting in the back and every single one of them tried to convince me not to get the Audi. After 2 visits and spending few hours at the dealership, I ended up walking away.

Ummm, the 2011 A4's 2.0T 4-cylinder is just as fast as most mid-range V6's.

I too looked at both the Lexus GS and LS 460. GS was too small (felt tight), and the LS was a tad bit out of my price range at the time of my purchase. I still love the LS and now can't wait to see and touch an Equus, provided a dealer near me will be one of the few Hyundai dealers able to sell them.

My 2010 3.8 loaded sedan replaced my 2000 MBZ CLK430 which had been totaled by State Farm. In order of preference this car won out over:

2006 Audi A6
2005 Audi A8L
2008 BMW 750Li
2006 BMW 5
2004 MBZ 600S (so glad I didn't go there!)
another CLK

I put a lot of miles on the top three choices above and the Hyundai was as good or better in all categories. I am completely comfortable with the "harsh" ride as it is the same as my CLK had. When you compare head-to-head and then bring price into the picture, the Hyundai is very hard to beat.

The two closest competitors were the Buick Lacrosse and the Audi A4. The Buick was nice but the front side visibility is really impaired by the A columns. The Audi A4 had no real cons but felt like my a lesser version of my (now former) BMW 330i. In the end, the Genesis won handily.
 
Considered a 5 series--nice but overpriced and less reliable, 3-series (too common, questionable reliability), GS (too small), LS (boring styling), a6 (see 5-series). Would never buy Mercedes as i think quality is low. Settled on the 4.6 and love it

What's really interesting is the price range of the cars that people considered before choosing the Genesis, from models that cost less than the Hyundai to ones costing at least $20k more. It's funny how the base prices of some of the higher end cars don't seem too outrageous until you start dialing in options, especially the technical ones like lane departure assist.
 
It seems that my case is little different than most people here.
I considered fully loaded version of these

Accord
Camry
Fusion
Maxima

Instead, got 3.8 base model for $30K.
It has everything I need and am very happy w my choice.
 
Pricing a 2012 Lexus ES350 and a 2012 3.8 Genesis - both cars with navigation (tech / premium) are coming out to $43K new; features lists are almost identical - question is, in about 3 yrs how much of a value would the Lexus vs Hyundai be.

How much do you all take in to consideration the Kelly Blue Book/Black book/NADA guides value of the Genesis before buying a Genesis?

Or is it not a question to ask on this forum since most intend to keep their cars for longer periods of time due to the length of the warranty?

I also considered these 2 cars in 2011. Once I test drove both cars, the decision was a slam dunk. I bought the Genesis.

Have you driven both cars?
 
Sat in / drove a Genesis 3.8 for the first time this past weekend. I was impressed by solid feel and ride.

I have the ES 350 next to check out on my list (though it reminds me of all things geriatrics) along with Acura TSX/TL. Genesis looks best of all these.

M3 guzzles enough so I need a second car (not another V-8) and Accord / Camry don't do it for me.

Any thoughts on the resale issue with Genesis, though?

I have no clue what the re-sale is.....You'll like the ride of the Genesis over the Lexus.
 
Seriously looked at Cadillac CTS as I have a 93 Allante I like a lot. But $5,000 more expensive, slower with 3.0 V-6 and not very good looking--Genesis wasdefinitely much superior
 
Nice to see my first thread resurrected...

I think that I briefly considered the ES350 back when I was looking, but quickly decided that the Genesis was the better buy.
 
I was considering a used 2007 lexus gs350 and 2008 MB e350. They both require premium gas and maintenance cost were a bit higher . Also their gadgets were a bit basic compare to my 2010 genesis.

I love it but I have to change tires soon
