Why are people compelled to COMPLAIN or BE NEGATIVE???

I've seen so many posts by people in this forum that would be better off left out.
I also see people react to these inflammatory remarks. These remarks have been made to my posts as well. I try to never respond to them, it is not worth it.

Why must you rain on someone else parade with your salty inflammatory comments? ( I hope you understand that this question is directed at YOU, the author of such posts, not you, the reader)

I enjoy this forum, but am routinely discouraged by people with nothing better to do than to throw a wrench in other people's works....

We should all be mature enough in this forum to exert self control when negative comments are at the tip of the tongue.

I'll give it a shot at the "WHY"...

Cause they have nothing "BETTER" to do with their lives.
It overpowers them to create crap or to start contradictions on public boards.

After you're here for a while you'll find out it's always the same people that do that!

Yup, it's always the same people. In online forums as in life.

I figure it's best to let 'em have their say. Negativity isn't all bad, and maybe it balances out us "overly optimistic" folk in some sense. I think the vast majority of those who frequent this site catch on to people's tendencies pretty quickly. Those who can't see the forest for the trees will get sucked into a response every now and then, though.


Online - even moreso than IRL - I've learned to take individuals' opinions with a grain of salt. Everybody has a different take on things for a reason --> because everybody has different experiences. Internet anonymity allows the extremists/alarmists more opportunity to express themselves than in the mainstream world.

Who's opinion is more trustworthy than another's? -- not his whose mode of communication relies on repitition and critique and insistence and repitition, for one.


My advice: take said instances as learning opportunities to improve your patience.

For someone half my age or less, I'm impressed with your wisdom. I only wish I at your age or others at ant point in their lifetime had the same thought process

My turn:

I was told I was pompous and over-moderating by a long time GenesisOwners member and believe it or not...I was really crushed by that comment.

Blessed...beyond measure...pompous about it...NEVER! And if I was, I would be going against everything I vowed to my God that I wouldn't do. My wife and I have worked hard for everything we have! We have been on our knees countless times praying to God Almighty that He direct our paths! Through our love for the Lord, prayer, and hard work, we have things that most 30 years olds of the past would never have. With that said, it seems as the older generation gets really jealous...at least thats how it looks to me. (even my dad!!!)

I grew up knowing that if I wanted nice things...I would have to earn it. So we worked hard...REAL hard and at this point (30 years old) we are comfortable. Is this bragging...absolutely not...if anything it should be a lesson to those who want the same things that I longed for all my life! My advice, get your nose buried in a book and get to work!! HA!

Another issue is that, like in a letter (from us old farts), or in an e-mail (from the middle aged), or in a text/tweet/poke/chat/IM/PM (from the youngsters) this forum is strictly textual..and lacking immediate 2-way comm feedback. Our communications lack all the other non-verbal cues and immediate feedback that you would get in a face-to-face conversation.

Sometimes we mean well when we type, but we type improperly. Or sometimes what you think you wrote as light hearted sarcasm comes across as mean or vindictive to the reader. I've certainly done that before. If I read something that might fit into that case, I try to look at how something was written from several angles before I get pissed off about it. And then sometimes folks are just plain mean. In those cases it's usually best to just ignore them. The best response is no response. Eventually they will tire of their 1-way "conversation" that no one seems to be listening to and go away. Allowing yourself to get pissed of really doesn't do much good anyways (unless you know where the offender lives and you can go choke him).

Some people think it's easier to deflate then to elevate, they would rather knock you down then pick themselves up. I see it all the time on all the online comments, blogs and chat rooms. The problem is the lack of the 'personal' aspect in this form of communication. Sitting in front of the computer, everyone in this forum is a bunch of letters, nothing personal, no closeness, nothing real or tangible. People in turn say things outrageously mean, spiteful, and hurtful because they don't fear any retribution. They are anonymous online, so they feel they can let out things they either really want to say in real life but are too afraid to say, or they just want to stir up people's emotions with negativity. That's why you hear some of the most racist, vile, nasty, evil, hateful things you have every heard in your life. No retribution, no responsibility for what they say, they can start whatever drama they want and just leave the room. All these people are looking for is an audience because they are unable to connect to people in real life, some of them are probably sociopaths. Like someone said earlier, just let them go and know that there is a special place for people like them. Worrying and stressing about what they do will only give you wrinkles,lol
