my genesis hit my Z06

well, about one of the worst days of my life was friday june 19th. i had to drive about an hour south of boston to pick up my new Z06 Corvette. the wife and i drove down in the genny and i headed north again in the vette with the wife behind me. for anyone that is familiar with the 93/95 'intersection' will know what a mess that is. throw in some rain, a few accidents and you have problems.

there was a significant speed change in the right hand lane just before exit 37A as you head north on 93. accident up near the exit. i moved into the right hand lane to exit, and had to slow from about 60 down to 30 or so. i looked up in the rearview mirror, hoping my wife got the speed change in time. she did not. she plowed into my back side, i couldn't keep my foot on the brake and i plowed into the guy in front of me.

her airbag went off, so we couldn't drive that car anymore. although i have to say that the radiator and condensor kept their integrity even though they had been hit pretty hard. fan was hitting something but other than that the car looked drivable.

had a towing company get the car up to the dealar i bought it from (about 3 hours north of accident), who also has one of the state's best body shops. monday AM around 11 the body shop manager called up. they had already taken the car apart and worked up the estimate. he says to me, 'now look, this accident really wasn't that bad. i just wanted to express that to you before you hear the price. right now we stand at $16k'.

highlights of that cost include the following:

fog lamp assy @ $168.15
radiator assy @ $549.05
air quality sensor @ $238.50
temp sensor @ $46.29
fan assy @ $425.18
condensor @ $342.58
hood @ $614.04
fenders @ $312.28 x 2
windshield @ $785.81

driver airbag and seatbelt and associated equipment is around $1500 or so.

car should be finished up today or tomorrow. no problems with getting parts for this car.

insurance wise i was curious when the genesis came in higher than the Z06. now i know why. the vette is only at $10k right now and that includes $2k for a carbon fiber fender

!!!

no significant injury to anyone involved. my wife was held in place by the seat belt and she never touched the airbag, although she thinks it 'threw' her left hand into the door causing her wedding/engagement rings to hit something and hurt her ring finger, as well as bent the rings. i was wearing a baseball hat and my head came back into a piece of plastic that runs across the back of the headliner. the little button on the top of the had hit this hard and dinged me.

morale of story is don't let wife follow you, and for god's sakes don't run the front of one of these things into anything....

Glad all are fine. At least you had no suspension damage, I waited a month to have my dealer/boby shop find parts.

Yikes! Thankfully no one was seriously hurt. I'm glad you can see some humor in it. I think I'd still be crying..

I am glad to hear you and your wife are fine.

Hopefully not a big deductible for the cars over there.

I am afraid to ask what this does to your Insurance rates. Mass already has high rates.

You are correct about the insurance. I had to pay a 6-month premium before mine dropped to a fairly decent rate...

Fortuneately no one was hurt!!! did you have the KAI wing airbag? If not, maybe now would be a good time to consider it.

Man.. This is a sad story but at least no one was badly injured.. What a day that must have been..

I'm glad no one was injured, but I think I would have had a meltdown on the side of the road. Seriously, I would have either raged or cried. Seeing 2 new beautiful cars like that makes me ill.

As everyone said thankfully no one was seriously injured, cars can be repaired easier then people, now with that said WWWWWTTTTFFFFFFF!@@!#!@@#!,lol when i looked at the pictures of your injured car, it started me thinking of my car and how i would feel if she got injured (she's black on black as well) and i cried like the indian on the old after school specials when someone littered,lol but seriously i am truly glad you and your wife are safe and well, and i hope you get your babies back (sweet ass vette by the way) riding the same way before the accident.
