  • Hint: Use a descriptive title for your new message
If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

I went out today and started my Genesis and there was no audio at all. I tried changing all modes to get something and the radio was dead.
Without my tunes, I drove to get gas and shut off the engine. When I was finished gassing up and I started the engine, wallah I had tunes back. Does anyone have an explanation for this glitch? 2012 V6

It happens once in a while. Reboot.

My 2012 did the same thing the first week I owned it. Lost sound for two hours then it came back on. It hasn't happened again in the 3 months I have owned the car. I found a dealer that seems to be willing to replace the amplifier without having to personally witness the no sound issue while the car is at the dealer. If it happens again I will take him up on his offer.

My surround sound doesn't remain checked on all sources after I turn the car off. I will insist the dealer fix it when I take my car in for service. He seems to think the head unit will need to be replaced.

We are not the only ones with these issues. Imho the radios are awful in the Genesis and reflect very poorly on Hyundai. Yes the sound quality is very good but a new car shouldn't lose audio. I am very disappointed with Hyundai because of these issues. The Genesis is a fine car in every other respect.

Do you have the tech package on your Genesis?

To LA Genesis:

Yes I have the Tech Pkg and this silence problem has happened to me twice since taking possession of my 2012 V-6(2000 miles). I will take your advice and speak to the dealer the next time I am in the city, which is 47 miles away.

I've had this happen to me once now. As stated, it eventually came back on. I haven't talked to the dealer about it yet.

Rebooting by turning the engine off and on did not help. It took 2 hours to come back on. I'll post how the dealer fixed the problem if/when I get it fixed.

Once again I am saying that this is caused by XM/Series Sat. Over the last six months there has been two free periods of which each lasted two week, in fact the last one is airing right now. I am saying, as I have before, Xm/Series free trial leaves a data string in your head unit/computer, this in turn causes your unit to corrupt when starting or selecting your voice command button on the steering wheel.

I have the remedy, which has been successful. Simple do not select XM radio when they are having there free intro weeks, which are usually twice a year. This has worked for me (2009 Tech). You can also interrupt the power by either pulling the Circuit breaker under the hood, which causes a cold reboot of the system, which in turn dumps the alien string of data. You can also disconnect the battery which does the same thing as the process above.

But, I have found the easiest way is to never ever select the XM button. This includes surfing through it using the steering wheel mode button. You will find that all problems occur during these free intro weeks which are a advertising snare. Hyundai could fix the problem by modifying the head unit to cold start every time you start the car, but this would be a costly mod which they continue to keep there "head in the sand", believing there is nothing wrong, as they have been doing about a lot of reported problems. In the end this will be a costly mistake on their part as the consumer will speak with their wallets.
This is my humble advise and opinion.

Hi. Newbie here and had same loss of audio with in first three days of ownership, dealer fairly close so took it in and tech found loss of power to amplifier. remedy was to replace 10 amp fuse for radio amp in left side of dash in fuse panel. Been no further problems at this time. Tech even gave me a couple of additional fuses and a fuse puller.

My amp was replaced and I still have the same proble, The Head unit is next, It happens to my radio only when it is really cold out. Sometimes there is a lot of loud popping from the speakers before the radio will come on,

One of the first things I did after bringing my new car home was remove all the engine compartment covers just to take a peek. Probably from compulsion I pushed on a few fuses and noticed they were pretty loose so I firmly pushed on every one and some of them were really loose. Not saying that's a cause but one never knows with these intermittent issues.

I am new to this forum- just found it today on google. I've had this problem happen on and off the past few weeks (have my 2011 V6 since May). Happens when I shut the engine with the radio on. Usually works after I shut the radio off- then turn back on. Haven't had a chance to bring it to the dealer.

I have had my Genesis since Aug 2008. I am increasingly convinced that the audio problem is linked to the free subscriptions trials provided by Sirius XM, usually in early Dec (fall timeframe) and in early March (spring timeframe) every year. Recently this happened again (early March). Over the years I've noticed a bursts of threads regarding audio problem which appear to coincide with XM free trial periods. It seems that Sirius XM leaves a data string which "confuses" the Lexicon unit.

One way to avoid this issues is to stay away from selecting the XM radio (even briefly) while these free trials are going on. In my case, when the problem occurs, I turn off the car and re-start it with XM turned off. The problem goes away. Once the free trials expire (usually a week or two), I can use XM without issue.

If you have the Tech Package, next time you run into this no-audio issue or the voice command is not working, please try this:

Go to ENG menu (by pressing these buttons simultaneously: Disc/AUX, Navi/Menu, Back and the Volume Knob on the DVD player).

Go to the "Software Update" submenu and selet "To full ENG full mode". When you select it, it prompts for a key code.

If you have the old head unit with old NAV maps (2009 and 2010), first try entering ##0324#0704## as key code.

If you have a newer head unit (2011 or later) or upgraded the NAV maps, enter 0324 as key code. Once you enter the code, on the left hand side there will be few more menu items that make up the full engineering mode.

Select "Diagnostics" submenu then select "Reset Component". Select UTA. This should reset the Amplifier. If audio doesn't come back, try resetting the other components.

Please post results here.

Thanks for the update. The next time that my system dies I will try your solution.

:)

Bernie, Thanks for supporting an idea I have had since I first published the problem in 2010. You are spot on and I can't understand why Hyundai has yet to resolve this problem with a software rewrite. How they can except the fact that there fantastic sound system still houses this cancerous fault which may inturn reduce there sales, as this word of mouth short coming is continuously published be frustrated owners. Keep on harping maybe they do read these strings.

My audio died again today but I had a copy of your instructions to reset the computer in my glove box. I tried it with the engine running and Lo & Behold the audio came on again. I am hopeful that your fix will be permanent and am eternally grateful:).

Glad I could help ;)

Did you reset every component of just the UTA (amplifier)?

Anyway, the fact that rebooting one of these components solved your no-audio issue tells me that all these problems are related to software/firmware bugs.

The other day, my HD Radio started acting up for the second time since I bought this car. I live kinda far away from the radio station antennas so, it is normal for me that the Head Unit would switch from HD to analog and then switch back to HD very frequently. What it wasn't normal that day was that the volume when it switched to HD mode was a lot lower than in analog mode. Very annoying. I pulled over and performed a reset only to the Head Unit and Lo & Behold the volume problem got solved.

Now here is the question, how can we get Hyundai to address these software bugs? I'm a firmware engineer and I volunteer to solve them but, I would need access to the source code and build/test environment. ;)

The audio/video system is outsourced to Lexicon, a division of Harman International. That is one reason HMA and its dealers are so quick to replace the units at $3000 a pop, since they just send thme back to Harman and get new ones.

TimeOut

I was at the dealer today and I was advised that a fix is in the works for this audio problem. We will have to wait until the solution has been thoroughly tested before we can get the fix installed.
