In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Has anybody heard of (or experienced) any ECU flash upgrades for the Genesis in order to remap transmission / throttle?

There were some 'interesting blips' in my G35 transmission (hard right hand turns at low/medium speeds would cause a noticeable lag/lack of power). I took it in thinking fuel pump but I was advised it was simply an ECU 'flash' upgrade to new software version and everything remapped and worked perfectly.

(downside is that the Infiniti's transmissions actually learn your driving patterns and styles and those all got blown away on the remap, but there was noticeably better transmission reaction, throttle tip-in, etc. And it re-learned).

There have been some comments about the Genesis' more "leisurely" transmission shifts and less than immediate throttle reaction. Wondering if Hyundai might have made some ECU (computer/software) adjustments available to dealers as well. Not sure if the Aisin tranny is as computer controlled as the G35's (I don't believe they have the same rev match blipping for example).

(Delievery is 8 days and counting...)

I havan't seen anything yet - I'm waiting for a flash that will make the ECU more aggressive and remove the on-throttle delay of the dbw system. Auto makers make dbw systems "lazy" for emissions and mpg purposes, but if youwant a driver's car, you want a more immediate response from the throttle.

My 3.8 would shudder under light loading at around 55 mph. It was like the torque converter was trying to lock up but couldn't. I took it in and there is a tech bulletin on the problem. They reprogrammed the ECU, but I haven't gotten it back to see if the problem is solved. I also had the directional signal dash lights flash at the same time when I would be just driving down the highway. They are replacing the dash module and I should have the car back tomorrow. I'm anxious to see how it does. It only has 4600 miles so I'm hoping the problems are solved.

Nothing yet.

I got the car back and I think the ECU reprogramming was a success. It shifts crisper and doesn't have as much of a delay when you push on the throttle. It will shifts like I think it should. Stays in the lower gears longer on starting from a stop. All in all I like it better.

Can't tell if the dash lights flashing was fixed, but it hasn't done it again since I got it back.

i emailed SFR (seoulfulracing) a couple of weeks ago regarding their ECU reflash for the sedans, both 3.8 and 4.6, and this is what i just got back today....

THIS IS WHAT I SENT
Hi, I read somewhere that you guys were working on an ECU reflash for the genesis sedan v6 3.8. I just wanted to know if it was ever finished and if you can reflash mine. How much would it cost? Can you give me some details about it (horsepower, mileage, warranty, price, etc.)?

Thanks, Max

Hello
Yes we do the reflash for Genesis sedan
It will gain about 5-15rhwp but our reflash is more towards to the drivability than making power
throttle response will increase greatly will have better gas mileage.. we don't have any warranty on the reflash
Price is $450
thanks

Sincerely,
SFR International Inc

my only question is will this void my warranty? if not, im sold

if Hyundai knows, they will void your warranty 100%.

You can ask and see if they will "flash it back to stock" for little to no charge. Just in case you gotta go into service for whatever problems.

That is not true. They would probably refuse any sort of engine problem if you did such a thing, but they would not be able to refuse unrelated warranty repairs such as suspension, etc.

I had my Tahoe re-flashed, and I got a separate ECU that I could just swap in and out for dealer visits (so they don't overwrite anything). Not sure if the ECU is in an easy to access place on the Genesis, but if so that may be a possibility for you.

while what you said is true (about only will void engine warranty kind of thing) but trust me I've been dealing with tons of warranty issues in the past (both for me and my friends) and they will use numerous of excuses to deny your warranty. in rare cases, you have to sue them to try to get them to fix your car. which is a PITA process.

I'm not sure how Genesis's system works as I don't even have the car, but most car these days are all connected via CAN bus and it's "mate" to each other. This is how "Engine immobilizer" works. You can't just swap ECUs like what we all used to do and expect it to work. That's also why instead of trying to swap ECU/hot wire to try to take your car, people nowdays just jack a tow truck and tow your car away to dismantle it.

most of the immobilizer code (if not all) is on the ECU itself, when it first start it will grab a bunch of numbers/codes from various of connected system like the Remote Keyless module, save those numbers back into the ECU and encrypt them. So when you start the 2nd time (or 1 million'th time) it will always run a self check and make sure "this ECU is for this car". the Re-flashing company might/should be able to remove this code from ECU altogether. but that also means people can hot-wire your car like the good old days.
