If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

Can you turn off the ESC?...YES WE CAN!!!!

Re: Can you turn off the ESC?

Ohh....my video! HA!

I will ask Sal about the posting of the information...I am pretty sure that NO rules will be broken. After all...this is an OPEN forum to ANYONE. Yes, Hyundai has asked us to remove some posts but it had nothing to do with any modifications whatsoever. People are going to customize their rides however they wish and Hyundai...cant stop us!

But..I am not a "legal guy" whatsoever so I will go on and notify SAL of your intent just in case there is something out there that I am not aware of.

KEEP IT COMING...after all, my nail biting is starting to hurt! :)

Indeed! I did try my best to protect the innocent in the first post… ;)

I would like to see a ‘take 2 video ‘: Genesis 4.6 FULL Burnout (with manual ESO) as it will make a nice compliment to the original video.

This forum has added to the pleasure of being a Genesis owner and I would love to share my findings with the group.

Just let me know, otherwise if you wish I can send you an IM or just drop me a message to my registered email and I will share with you what I have so far until I try to come up with some sort of cabin based switch.

Re: Can you turn off the ESC?

Hey GEN owners!

PING here.

Daviderle and I are working through Private Messages right now...but it seems we have something GOOD going on! In fact...TOTALLY AWESOME if we can get it right!

Daviderel is the BRAINS behind this project...and I am the one holding the flashlight! HA! :)

Any and all respect goes to him!

I will be making HD videos of what we are doing, how we're doing it, what to look for, and what the outcome will be!

If we get this right...personally, I think it will be the BIGGEST breakthrough by a "genesisowner" to date! After all...whats the point in having 375 HP if you can only use it above 60 mph??? HA

Anywho...STAY TUNED!

Re: Can you turn off the ESC?

It feels like you have put me in the middle of a cruel joke.

"Question: How do you keep a Genesis Owner in suspense?"
"Answer: I'll tell you later."

:D - I eagerly await results and especially the vidoes!!

Re: Can you turn off the ESC?

WOW Can't wait...

Just want to let you know that I really appreciate everything you guys are doing VERY,very much....Thank you!

Regards,

Re: Can you turn off the ESC?

WE GOT IT!!!

YEEEEAAAAHHHHH!!!

Just got back from McDonalds and left 20 ft. squirrley strips at the red light.

Now we are trying to implement a switch and video Daviderle's findings.

You will be SHOCKED how easy it is!

Now, all we are waiting on is SAL for the "ok to proceed"...WHERE YOU AT BRO?

Re: Can you turn off the ESC?

PINGGOLF,

You're killing me...I want to try too!
Please share...

Thanks

lol...I have to agree. I'm not sure which I would rather see, a luxury sedan devouring the asphalt or the device in wish it allowed it do so. I think I'll take the "20 foot squirrely strip" for now :)

Re: Can you turn off the ESC?

Guys, as PINGGOLF mentioned we are there with the manual override and without his help today we would have had to wait until the weekend as I had to double checked my results and make sure that there are no side effect.

More than half the credit goes to him as I would not have even looked into the problem without this thread, his “limited burnout” video and feeling a little nostalgic about my old TrasAM… :D

My only small wish is to check with Sal to make sure we are following the right procedures as this mod will definitely change the characteristics of the vehicle. ;)

PINGGOLF has my blessing to release the details with you on my behalf as I am traveling and I am sure if the the mod is applied many may agree that the ‘stock’ Sedan can easily say to it ‘little sibling’ - “Coupe: Eat your heart out” (even with upgrades)..

Re: Can you turn off the ESC?

Many sights post items like this. Simply add a disclaimer warning that procedure is not recommended or endorse by either Hyundai or the owners of this sight and that this sight promotes freedom of speech and yada yada yada. There is nothing wrong with posting this information. For crying out loud, there are sites that provide detailed information on making bombs. I do not think anyone is going to get upset that someone posted directions for burning up tires faster.
This is of course my opinion. Your mileage may vary.

I can't believe you mentioned an old Trans Am. I had one too and there are some things about the Genesis that remind me of it. I have to ask what year did you have?

Ahh, it was 2000 model, Black and in pristine condtion with only 27k miles on it as of last November.:o... and indeed the Geni does remind me of it, especialy the exhaust note in the second gear at around 5000 RPM...

Re: Can you turn off the ESC?

ok...here is what we've got so far.

If you open the hood and on the passenger side CLOSEST to the FIREWALL you will see a fuse box.

Inside that box...in the middle you will see a RED 10A FUSE in a stack of 4. Flip the box over and it should say ECS (which is backwards from ESC)

PULL IT...AND YOUR BEAST WILL BE UNLEASHED!

BUT.........here is where we are at right now. The CHECK ENGINE light is now lit and we are trying to figure out how to reset the main ECU.

I know there are a few HYUNDAI EMPLOYEES around here and it would be awesome if we can get some help here. SPEAKTHETRUTH...where you at bro! We could use your help...or anybody for that matter!

A Word of Caution: The TIRES are EXPENSIVE for this car....HA! :)

Daviderle is the MAN!

Re: Can you turn off the ESC?

WOW is that all it takes!!! Can't wait for a day without rain to try it.

Mine was a used 1979 (Smokey and the Bandit) Trans Am I owned in high school. I loved that car and it was in pristine condition. Unfortunately, after only owning the car for about a year someone pulled out in front me and I hit them. It was totaled. The accident was their fault but I think my own immaturity of driving a little too fast was to blame as well. The car was totaled and I've missed it ever since.

Let's be sure no one does this after disabling the ESC. Be safe out there.

Re: Can you turn off the ESC?

I would love to see some videos of the resulting "test" drives after the ESC is disabled ;)

Re: Can you turn off the ESC?

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you....
Will try tomorrow if it doesn't rain here too.

Regards,

Re: Can you turn off the ESC?

Well couldn't wait :o . So I went to check between rains. But there was no ESC or ECS listed in the guide printed on the top panel. So I tried the ECP or was it ESP fuse ( one of the middle 10A in the cluster of 4 ). No Check engine light, but brake, ESC, and a third one were lit. Also the speedometer didn't work, and the GPS info read 0MPH when moving. Punching it, the car got only a little squirly, on take off, on a wetted road.
Back to the drive way. Put 10A back and pulled fuse marked TCU (hoping it was the Traction Control Unit). No luck, wouldn't even start.
Replaced that fuse, and found 15A ESC fuse in box by drivers door, pulled that. Engine started, no warning lights lit. Take it out. Couldn't find anywhere without cars, and more clouds rolling in. Hit the ESC off button, ESC off light came on in dash. Not sure what that fuse does  . Go to turn a corner at an intersection and punched it. Next thing I feel compelled to ease up on the gas  .
Well, will have to investigate a little more, when it's safer to do so. Wanted to share my finding on this matter, to see it it helps anyone else; and maybe come up with a reliable workaround.
Any one else have these diffent fuse than the one PINGGOLF mentioned? Or luck getting this to work?

Keep up the good work and keep us informed.

All,

Please be careful out there!!! :welcome:

Disclaimer, * WARNING * this procedure is not recommended or endorse by either Hyundai or the owners of this site, PINGGOLF or myself have no responsibility whatsoever on the outcome of these tests, please DO NOT TOUCH your vehicle as doing so may cause any number malfunctions and you alone will hold full resposbility of your actions.

I am not associated with Hyundai in any way and have no prior knowledge of interworking of any specific part of the Genesis electronics. Personaly, I am purely looking into the problem as engineering enthusiast who wishes to understand how things work. :p

It still early days, ideally Hyundai will come up with an update that disables the ESC completely and saves us all the trouble, in the mean while we will try to continue working on these issues...

If you have an issue please feel free discuss (to see if it can be recreated and solved)...

ImInPA,

Thanks for the tip... ;)

Hay MarkF001,

Do you have 4.6 or a 3.8? I think you have the Tech package (as you mentioned GPS)?

If you have 4.6, ESP should be the correct name for the fuse (as labeled on my fuse Box - FAM - 10A ECU, 10A ESP). The lights would be Yellow ESC, Yellow ABS and Red Break light.

Also can you elaborate “little squirly”? Did the engine misfire? Was the car in wrong gear? also did you have a full tank of gas?

....
In my orginal test last week I also removed a blue 40A square ESC fuse in the fuse box located on the driver side towards the front of Vehicle. my plan for this weekend was to test removing each fuse separately to see if the same resuls can be created... (but the cat is out of the bag now )
