If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. The "Lounge" is for introducing yourself. If you need help with your G70, please post in the G70 section - and so on... This message can be closed by clicking the X in the top right corner.

A/C Not Cold Enough

We had our one of our very few hot day in Georgia this summer, so I conducted a simple air-conditioner performance observation. I got in my car after work when it was sitting in the sun all day. The car's said the outside temperature was was 93°. I have a tan interior and tinted windows, but these probably did not matter much after a full day in direct sunlight. The interior was a full oven, and the top of the steering wheel was too hot to touch.

I did not touch any A/C buttons-- it was full auto. I also turned on the cooled seat full blast. I did not open the windows to vent any air. It was the worst-case scenario. The A/C fan took about 30 seconds to come after the car started. It immediately went to full-blast fans and stayed that way steadily. The system backed the fans down one notch after 14 minutes. At that point, the car felt okay but not awesome. One minute later, it backed the fan speed down another notch. The car felt noticeably better, and I could feel the benefit of the cooled seat. At 20 minutes the fan went to 1/2 speed or slower, and the car felt really good.

This is pretty good performance to me in a hot day in Georgia. In 10 minutes it was survivable. In 15 minutes it was comfortable, and in 20 minutes it felt ideal.

I never looked at it the whole way. Heavy traffic and stuff.

I run my A/C in auto all the time. The A/C light is never on unless I push the button, which hasn't been in 1 1/2 years. It blows very cold.

okay - thx. mine was on regularly earlier this year (in auto) but recently has been (and is staying) off. visited dealer recently and have been watching (taking notes actually); experience is almost identical to capn's ... so i guess we're good.

Hi all - I am new to this group and wanted to share what's going on with my 2012 4.6 Genesis. I also live in Florida and have had several different makes and models of cars. I recently noticed the air, randomly during the day, getting warm when sitting idle at red lights. The first trip to the STEALER, I mean DEALER:

"CHECKED A/C SYSTEM FOR LEAKS, NO LEAKS FOUND. EVAC A/C SYSTEM. RECOVERED 1.37lbs OF FREON, PUT A/C SYSTEM IN A VACUMN FOR 20 MIN. AND RECHARGED A/C SYSTEM. RETEST A/C SYSTEM PERFORMANCE, A/C BLOWING 42 DEGREES AT IDLE"

It was dark when I picked up my car and I thought it was okay. However, when I get in the car to go to work in the morning the issue was not resolved. I notified them right away and told them I travel for work and would set up another appointment in a few weeks. The second trip to the STEALER, I mean DEALER:

"CUSTOMER CAME IN PREVIOSLY FOR THIS CONCERN, A/C STILL BLOWING WARM AIR WHEN VEHICLE IS STOPPED -- NEEDS A/C CONDENSER"

They are telling me a rock went through the grill of my car and damaged my condenser and will not be covered under warranty. They want $478.00 for parts and $300.00 for labor. I was going to to take in for a second onion tomorrow. I honestly find it very hard to believe a rock would do that.....

And to make things worst, my car's A/C went from not working correctly to not working at all and the dirty cabin filter sitting on the floor of my car.

What do you guys think?????

I still have a warranty on my car........

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
Road debris damages vehicles every day. Repairs are on your dime. SOP in the auto industry. Yes, you are SOL.

That being said, carmakers could do a much better job of protecting condensers with better screening.

Most car insurance policies will cover that kind of damage, however.

For cooler air I always recirc the air. Fresh air is too hot to cool much on a hot day. Also - the other day I was thinking the same thing, "It's hot in here, the AC isn't working on my brand new car." Come to discover that the vent for the back seats was switched to "hot" instead of cool. Made a big difference when I switched it to cool

Yes, my wife drives our Genesis and has always found that the A/C is not very good. For one thing, I was in the car yesterday(not that hot outside) and the car would not cool at all until the car was moving. Also, "recirculate" should not be necessary to cool the car when it is 70 to 80 degrees. When is close to 100, it takes a very long time to begin to cool the car, even on recirculate. And, yes, this is even the case when the rear vent dial is rotated to the COOL setting.

Now, I'm wondering what type of compressor Hyundai is using because I cannot tell when the compressor cycles on and off. It is incredibly stealthy. With any American make vehicle I have ever driven, and that is a bunch of vehicles, you can clearly hear and often feel when the compressor cuts on, and even see the RPMs drop momentarily. I wonder if the Hyundai compressor is somehow not as effective as those on domestic vehicles.

A big heavy car that's been sitting in the sun takes forever to cool down regardless of make & model.

Compressors? Some cars use a variable vane compressor which doesn't cycle. In any case, I don't notice the compressor cycling on my Genny, nor would I expect to with a 420 hp V8.

How to check for cooling? Get a little handheld IR thermometer like the LaserGrip 774 from Amazon for $17 and check the actual vent exit temp. Should be in the upper thirties =>low forties. Better than guessing.
