If you're looking for help and want to draw people in who can assist you, use a descriptive subject title when posting your message. In other words, "I need help with my car" could be about anything and can easily be overlooked by people who can help. However, "I need help with my transmission" will draw interest from people who can help with a transmission specific issue. Be as descriptive as you can. Please also post in the appropriate forum. Does anyone know or could instruct me on how to get power from the drivers side fuse box so I can hardwire my radar detector. I an looking for switched power which well re act when the ignition in on and off. Which terminal should I use, and how should I hook up to that particular fused terminal.

Thanks for any help

Looking to update and upgrade your Genesis luxury sport automobile? Look no further than right here in our own forum store - where orders are shipped immediately!
This link refer to the wrong fuse box. I was hoping to get info on which terminal within the DRIVER SIDE fuse box I could use to get switched power for my radar detector to be hard wires. I am going to use a phone cord and an attachment kit (Stealth kit) which has ends for my Cobra detector.

Any help appreciated
Tanks Kevin

Hi kev4. Did you ever figure out a switched location in the fuse box? I want to hard wire my Escort 9000ix which I had hard wired in my last car. I like the on/off with ignition. I checked the hmaservice.com site but the pages regarding the fuse boxes are blank to me. I'm getting ready to simply try connecting to each empty location and see what happens.

Refer to the attached thread. I used the same hookup for my Escort and it works great, without having to run a wire from the fusebox!

I have my detector on the dash, in the driver's corner, so I wanted to use the driver side fuse box. After more searching, I found a post by Nabber who had found an empty switched location, which I literally just used a few minutes ago to hook up. Works great. As for a ground, I used the hole in the metal frame that is next to the fuse box. On a related note, because my fuse panel door is stubborn, I ended up pulling hard enough to accidentally remove the entire side panel, which is indeed meant to come off. That made it much, much easier to acces the fuse area.

Maybe I'm looking in the wrong place, but for the life of me I can't seem to find the link to the Nabber post that shows the "switched connection" on the drivers side fuse box. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks

Ditto here, where is this post by Nabber that details the switched connection in the driver's side fuse box? Need it for the same reason of hardwiring a radar detector that will be on the dash left of the instrument panel hump. Anyone?

If you are looking at the driver's side fuse block, I went to the top left fuse; which is labeled 10A AUDIO (IG 1). I chose this location because it will handle more than enough current to run my detector, and because "ignition" is only hot while cranking and running. I did not want the detector on while using accessory. Further, if for some unseen reason it blows, it is not tied to any vital function of the car. (well for some, music is vital!)

I used a piggyback fusetap to accomplish the connection without altering any vehicle wiring.

Hopes this helps. :)

Great, thanks SmoovC for both the exact fuse and pics. I'm ordering from safensound now.

Where did you attach your ground btw? (No need to reinvent the wheel here right)

That bolt in the upper left corner of the pic above seems like a logical spot.

IMO, it is easier to tap into the mirror.

I drilled an 1/8" hole below the bolt shown in the upper left of the picture of the fuse box, and used a ring terminal with a star washer to make the ground connection.

All said & done, it took about 10 minutes to complete the wiring and connections.

FYI: the bolt shown is about 5 or 6" long!

May be, but that's not where I want my detector unfortunately. I prefer it on the dash and the Genesis has the perfect little spot for it on the left of the instrument hump right next to the pillar.

Russimo I thought of the same thing looking at that bolt in my '10 4.6 Tech last night, but also thought it looked pretty serious in it's 'job' so loosening it to slide a wire underneath might be questionable activity. I'll drill a new hole like SmoovC did - thanks for the reply.
